Koeman hoping for a hat-trick of signings

Ronald Koeman is confident of completing up to three new signings within the next week.

The Saints boss handed a debut to Ryan Bertrand as his side completed a fifth win from five pre-season games with a 3-1 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

But that is only the start of what looks like a host of exciting news for Saints fans.

“We are close to signing two or three new players and we hope to bring them in in the next week,” said Koeman.

“We show our ambition.

“Of course we lost some good players but that’s part of the life and part of the good season Southampton had last season.

“Still we are with the same ambition as before.”

There was no place in the squad for Morgan Schneiderlin, though Koeman insisted that was already planned due to the Frenchman coming back late for pre-season due to his extended World Cup trip.

Koeman has spoken to Schneiderlin since the midfielder took to Twitter to complain after Saints told him he would not get his wish to be sold this summer.

Chairman Ralph Krueger also categorically said publically that both Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez would not be sold this summer, and Koeman said: “That was a very clear message of the board of the club.

“That was a good signal to everybody and I am happy about that.”

Of his discussions with Schneiderlin he added: “The conversations are between us and not to the media because we like to keep those sort of things inside.

“He was not in a good shape to play because he has been training only for five or six days and normally he will play next week against Leverkusen at home.

“About his situation, we wait.

“He is a player of Southampton and I hope he will continue as a player of Southampton.”

Koeman refused to be utterly unequivocal on anything to do with transfers with plenty of time still left before the window closes, and clearly expects further movement in the squad, possibly in and out.

“There are a lot of rumours and we will wait,” he said.

“It is still not the deadline and we will see.

“Normally there will come some more changes not only in Southampton but maybe the rest of the teams as well and that is normal but we prepare ourselves for the start in two weeks and I think we are in a good way to do that.”

Just watched his interview. The amount of times he deferred to the Board was amazing. Hope they don't stand in his way of having a right good go!

looks like he wont be sold!
saying he hopes he will continue to be a saints player could be a comment about future seasons.

I really hope that we get our three new signings - these will be needed to be competitive against the Top 8-10 in the Premier League which can be very unforgiving.

I see Ben Smith has been writing a very negative piece on the BBC Sport website. Obviously not at the Amex to see what sounds like a very positive performance. Apparently a 15 yr old has been taken out of the academy by his parents because of "the instability of the club". Would love the "new" Saints team to make Ben and a few others eat their words. A huge pre-season test at St. Marys next Saturday. Hopefully that will give us a few pointers as to how the first part of the new season will go. A few signings possibly before then too.

Iwas just flicking through some of the posts like the lovren thread for example. An embarrasingly negative outpouring but understandable given the context at the time I guess. Brilliant and so true .......... Even a little intellect could work out this summer is and will continue to be a vindication of the best academy in World football !

Went to B'mouth but not Brighton, Tadic looked absolute class but wasn't sure about Pele, very early I know ..........

This Summer and the goings on we have seen, if Saints continue to build could well be reflected on by the masses as a sign of quite how Lazy and poor many of the Premier League sides are at scouting their next player ?

I read we have over 40 scouts world wide ? Maybe that and Ronald's knowledge and experience will be even more important in the short term than the great new players coming out of the academy ?

One things for sure , the fans are more respected by the club now, than they were a year ago !

Exactly! Just doesn't make sense. Why would parents of a 15-year-old who could be on the verge of a first team debut remove their son from one of the greatest acadamies in the world? Maybe he wasn't up to Saints' standard. If it is true, the BBC hack should interview the parents and name names

If Ron gets his 3 more signings we will have a stronger squad than last year...shaw covered lallana covered and im sure there will be cb and striker soon to fill in the other places...wasnt bad side last night and we have gaston morgan and later jay rod to come in...not bad at all...Looking forward to the season and proving all the critics media and neggies wrong as is Saints way! I predict Ward Prowse to shine this year its his chance to remove Lallanas stain off the pitch..Tadic seems the business too ..i can hear the commentators saying now 'well youd never guess Southampton sold half their team they way they are playing'- hopefully at Liverhampton really really love it if we beat them can give them a chorus of sha la la la la!

If Taider coming, then would love us to spend big money on a truly top class CB, and one more 'headline news' goal scorer.
After that, squad players maybe if right person available, but really want JWP, Reed, Isgrove, Gallagher, Targett and a couple of others to properly breakthrough this year.

A huge pre-season test at St. Marys next Saturday. Hopefully that will give us a few pointers as to how the first part of the new season will go. A few signings possibly before then too.
Shows how bright some parents are if this is true. Didn't they notice that players from our academy are in high demand and are ending up at top four sides even when there is apparent instability within.

Yep we would Seed and both the Rambo bros too. And the GK coach, and Sammy. ALL griss to the mill mate.
I think you will find Freddie will be worth his weight in gold once the franchises idea goes ahead in N. America (if they pursue it) It's going to take a few years to pan out but it's a masterstroke as Saints youth policy is being talked about throughout the world of football.

This will be a great season.

One thing that I am really pleased with is that this will be Rons team and nobody will be able to say he built on MoPo's legacy .. largely because that legacy all decided to ***k off elsewhere chasing money... It will be the team that Ron built and we have seen big rebuilds twice in recent years, firstly when Pardew showed up and secondly when Nigel took us into the Premiership, both worked out well eventually.

Ron - the future here is much brighter than many would think. The fans are right behnid you big fella and if you outdo the previous achievements of recent seasons you will take full credit and deservedly so.

Two weeks to go and frankly Im feeling good about it !

KING RON looks like the real deal - it was good of him to make time for photos and signings as he got off the Coach.

The SAINTS FANS had lots of fun on the Terraces and Concourse at half time letting off steam after all the events off the field. There are some good chants about the ex-Players - I will not post them - you will enjoy them when you get to an AWAY Game.

I really hope that we get our three new signings - these will be needed to be competitive against the Top 8-10 in the Premier League which can be very unforgiving.

CONFIDENCE grew with the Players who are developing a good working relationship with each other and the Crowd helped them have an enjoyable night with their passionate support - so it was WIN-WIN all round.

WE ARE AMBITIOUS to do well in the Premier League and although the Squad looked light - it seemed full of promise. COYR+WS

Not sure if it is just me or am I right in thinking the media want Saints to fail and keep poking the fire with mass hysteria.
The players we have lost have all pushed to leave the club in some way,
the problem is its happened all at once.
I think our biggest miss will be Rickie as he was a Roy of the Rovers type player and a fans fave but who can stand in his way when he gets his dream move.
I have faith we will replace those players with players of Ronald's vision
and if we have academy players coming through mixed with those then it will be very exciting. Throwing loads of money at things doesn't always work (Spurs). For me its a very exciting time to be a Saints fan.

True, the neggie veggies might claim to have scored through Cortese and the much respected Jason Dodd and Paul Williams, but the happy clappers might claim similar with those recent new employee members of the club's new board of directors. I therefore decided, in the absence of wider and wiser advice, to keep the scoring only to those we might see on during matches.

I have been holding back writing my fourth annual post for a few months now. First of all, thanks to all who post here for keeping me informed and entertained over the last year. At the end of the season I firmly believed that KL was going to keep the team because there was a chance to increase its value and revenue by making the Saints a worldwide brand, that's why she brought in a chairman to create the brand and leave the football decisions to football exerts. Part of her plan was getting rid of people that did not fit in her "good guy" Saints image (Puncheon, Cortese, Osvaldo). I expected great new players to be added to the terrific existing squad. I was concerned however that many teams that had finished mid table a few years ago made poor decisions and now occupy places in the Championship and League One.

Then came June and July. There is no need for me to repeat any of the concerns that others have stated about the departures and lack of arrivals. It has all been said before but now that the "IN" door seems to be functioning at St Mary's now and the "OUT" door is hopefully shut tightly, I feel better.

The last ten seasons have been full of surprises and the last four have been so positive. I see no reason to not be excited about the new team being assembled.

I think Saints are gaining supporters with the way the club has gone up secured out top flight status with a great season, sold off £100m from 5 players and brought in Koeman and 3 players with 3 or 4 more to come. I am confident we will have a competitive team come the start of the season and a great playing style under Koeman.

Saints will continue to bring through more youngsters and will continue to scout for more into our Academy to make sure we reap the rewards for many years. Why would you play in Chelsea's Academy when you can get to the first team quicker at Saints and establish yourself?
