Saints made it five wins from five in pre-season as they comfortably beat Championship side Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium.

Ronald Koeman’s men dictated the game throughout and were full value for their win.

Saints opened the scoring midway through the first half as Dusan Tadic turned on the edge of the area and drilled a fierce low shot past David Stockdale at his near post.

Steven Davis doubled the lead a minute before half time as he calmly sidefooted home after Graziano Pelle’s blocked shot in the area broke to him 12 yards out.

James Ward-Prowse added a third on 64 minutes as he won possession and unleashed a brilliant sliced 25 yard shot that bent into the top corner.

Kazenga LuaLua pulled one back, the first Saints have conceded in pre-season, after robbing the ball and firing in via a slight deflection off of Nathaniel Clyne.

The game also featured a Saints debut for new signing Ryan Bertrand who played the first half while Morgan Schneiderlin was, as expected, missing after only reporting back last weekend following his World Cup adventures with France.

Saints now have just one pre-season friendly remaining before they start the Premier League season against Liverpool as they take on Bayer Leverkusen at St Mary’s a week on Saturday.

This must be viewed a good result and I am relieved we won and I am sure RK is as well.

I thought that was a very promising performance. Plenty of defensive resources in Clyne and Bertrand, after banking the megamillions for Shaw (who was immediately declared by ManUre to be unfit). Tadic looked sharp up front, and took his goal really well. After the last few days turmoil I am feeling a lot more optimistic now.

Went to game and was pleasantly surprised, as we still passed well and played good attacking football, some more promising youngsters too! Downside was the £15 cost of parking and still a 10 minute walk to stadium, think that this was a rip off for a friendly! Anyone else felt the same? Feeling more positive about the season now!

Downside was the £15 cost of parking and still a 10 minute walk to stadium, think that this was a rip off for a friendly! Anyone else felt the same? Feeling more positive about the season now!
Agree with car parking rip off, no signs for away supporters and crappy parking anyway.
On plus side was Lloyd Isgrove who I thought was impressive with his work rate and wing play, Tadic should his quality and JWP who should be our future captain, if he stays is looking very confident in his ability and growing in stature.
My only concern is Pelle , he's more mobile than Rickie and did some nice touches (like Rickie) , but he was rather static and easy to mark in the box. I'm not sure if he's got 15-20 goals in the EPL in him...hopefully he proves me wrong.
Koeman seems to have them playing very well so a big thumbs up for him.
