Saints bank £76.9m in Premier League payments

Basingstoke Gazette: Saints bank £76.9m in Premier League payments Saints bank £76.9m in Premier League payments

Saints banked £76.9m in payments from the Premier League in the 2013/14 season.

The sum is more than £30m above what they earned during the previous campaign, thanks largely to a bumper new television deal.

With 50 per cent of the UK broadcast revenue shared equally between the division’s 20 sides, Saints, as well as each other club, received one payment of about £21.6m.

They also received about £8.6m in ‘facility fees’ for being shown on television a minimum of ten times during the campaign.

On top of that, they received just over £16m for finishing eighth in the table.

With the overseas broadcast income and central commercial funds being shared equally, Saints also banked about £26.3m and £4.3m respectively from those pots.

Liverpool earned the most during the season, banking just over £97.5m.

Would this be enough to clear our existing debts (training ground plus the 20+ million we owe for transfers) or is it needed for running costs (this season/next season)?

Just trying to grasp at where it would leave us in terms of needing to sell players and bring more in.

Just to make it even more clear that we are moving in the right direction, that we should not sell, and that we should continue doing what we are doing, so that we OVERTAKE those who want our players:

Sign poch up to a new contract, keep all our key players, and buy a top striker and centre back. Sorted. The financial rewards would be much higher next year plus a place in the champions league which would also make the club millions!

I have read before that wages are 47M. Staplewood will be mortgaged so no worries there and transfer fees are staged over a period of time.
So that leaves 30M for transfers. Three top players.
To put it all in perspective – Chelsea wage bill is 223M – how can that be funded under Financial Fair Play one asks and have money for transfers.
Pot and kettle me thinks.

Because the FFP rules are based on a clubs turnover, not their profit, and Chelsea's turnover at the end of December 2013 was £255.8million.

However, on the thought on what our great club should do with the money, dont forget running costs, staff wages (not just players), etc.... will eat into that meaning we will have less than half of it to spend on new players.

Unfortunately, although we dont NEED to sell our best players, we are at best a "tier 2" club with the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal above us as "tier 1". We need to look at the likes of Everton and compete with them for now and then push on to breaking into the six other clubs mentioned, on a consistent basis, not just a one off season.

OK Les & Ralph we trust you have allocated a decent amount of this to transfer funds for the quality Striker, pacy winger and Centreback that we need to add to the current squad which should convince MoPo, Adam & Luke to stay. Add a Goalkeeper and we have a squad to push on for a Champions League place next season.
Explain to MoPo that he is wanted here for a longer term and take Saints on, Levy has a revolving door at Spurs so not a really a good move for him.
Also please get on with signing up the targeted players now before the other clubs get in first. We expect a couple to be signed in next 10 days.

With this income and the fact that financially we are no longer a selling club please tell all that none of our young stars Adam & Luke are going anywhere. Thanks to Nichola they have three or four year contracts so tell them to stay are show the clubs ambition by using this money to add four quality players targeted quickly before other clubs get them.
With the current squad in tact and his targeted players coming in on top of the new training facilities and academy MoPo would be stupid to go.

Message to Les & Ralph, we are all expecting you to make an impact, We are sure that Katharina has not appointed you to oversee the break up of all that has been built up over the last 5 years, DO NOT FAIL US.

What happens will happen and us fans will just have to accept what ever evolves, and if we dont like it thats tuff our only logical protest is not to renew our season tickets, I wonder why the club is asking for renewals a "tad early" this year?
