Poch praise from Lawrie

Basingstoke Gazette: Lawrie McMenemy Lawrie McMenemy

Saints legend Lawrie McMenemy insists Mauricio Pochettino deserves a share of the credit for three of the club’s players making England’s World Cup squad.

McMenemy, pictured, who led Saints to the 1976 FA Cup, was thrilled to hear that Roy Hodgson had picked Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw for Brazil.

He believes the work conducted by Pochettino, coupled with the efforts of the players, has helped lead to the unprecedented recognition for the club.

“They are all good choices and it’s credit to all three players,” he said.

“But it’s a good time to give credit to the manager and his staff as well.

“The way the team has been run this season, both on the training ground and the pitch itself, has got people to sit up and take notice. Not just for the way they play, but their results, home and away, as well.

“They have impressed everybody this season.”

McMenemy added: “The hope for supporters of the club, like myself, is that the three of them will all be there when they come back at the beginning of the season and that, instead of looking to see where anyone goes, we are looking to see what is added to what is already in place, so that the club can move on again.”

When the big man offers an opinion it's usually worth listening to. Let's hope the decision makers see it that way too.

Yea I wish everyone would back off a bit and stop fretting about who is staying and who is going where or what.
The owners want us at the top and they will back the manager who has produced his shopping list. Les Reed says no one will go unless the manager agrees it, and he isn't going to let our star players go to our biggest rivals.
Some big offers seem to have already been made but at least give the players who are the subject of these offers a few days/weeks to let them chew it over with their families.
They owe it to their families to make the best decision for them and everyone reading this would do as well. It's all big money and has to be thought about carefully.

Personally I believe the owners want us in the top four, there's nothing in Katherina's body language that suggests otherwise - she had colours on and everything for the last game and was all smiles chit-chatting with Roy Hodgson (we should bill him for a season ticket!)

Poch is the key - if he stays it will be because he believes the board have the drive and the vision to see the club kick on and push on up the division. If the gaffer stays I believe the players will too. But all these decisions aren't going to happen in a day or so or even in a few days, so just calm down and stop worrying.

I agree the big man knows what he is talking about I also think he should work as an advisor to the board ! Let us not forget we are not a poor club, we do not have cash strapped owners, KL is a multi-billionaire and this is her dads club, NC left because KL wanted to have a say in the running of her business that she has invested in generously! Business owners do not invest vast sums of money and then when it starts to succeed and make money systematically sell off the assets and render the business useless! The board will do everything they can to secure MP on a long term deal and have already stated that MP has final say on playing staff! If MP were to leave it would be his decision and same with the players. I have no doubt on my mind that if MP did leave it would not be the end of the world as the board would seek the best replacement money can buy ! We all thought the end of the world was coming when pardew got sacked then when Adkins got sacked and then when NC left but we are still here and still a top ENGLISH football team producing international players from are investment in youth! Coyr!

When MP signed I heard Big Mac on the Radio being very disrespectful about him, I am glad he has given credit now.
