SAINTS winger David Brooks scored and provided an assist for Wales as they beat Finland 4-1 in European Championship qualifying on Thursday evening.

The victory saw them progress to the Euro 2024 playoff final, where they will face Jan Bednarek's Poland, who beat 10-man Estonia 5-1.

Wales will host Poland on Tuesday, March 26 in Cardiff with the winner going into Group D at this summer's tournament alongside Austria, the Netherlands and France.

Brooks was a somewhat surprise inclusion from the off as Rob Page elected to start with Kieffer Moore and Dan James on the bench.

The Southampton loanee played in a fluid front three alongside Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson as Page opted for pace over power.

It only took the 26 year old three minutes to put his country ahead. He reacted quickest to Wilson’s parried effort and fired past Lukas Hradecky for his fourth Wales goal.

A loud roar of ‘Brooks, Brooks will tear you apart’ followed from the jubilant Welsh supporters inside the Cardiff City Stadium.

He continued to do just that, posing a constant threat for the Finish defence with runs in behind and quick feet before Neco Williams doubled Cymru’s lead minutes before Teemu Pukki pulled one back.

Wales only needed two second half minutes to restore their two-goal buffer. Spurs winger Johnson was on hand to ensure Brooks' goalbound effort hit the back of the net.

That transpired to be Brooks' final key action as he was replaced on the hour mark by promotion rival and fellow loaned-out Cherries man Kieffer Moore.

Leeds United’s James added a fourth late on to continue his impressive season after Ben Davies had a goal ruled out.

Elsewhere, Bednarek played a full 90 minutes for Michał Probierz's Poland, helping them to a comfortable win over Estonia.

Their evening was made easier when Maksim Paskotsi was sent off midway through the first half before Poland piled on further goals after the break.
