- Saints sign two players on transfer deadline day
- Toby Alderweireld joins on season-long loan and Sadio Mane for £10m
- Gaston Ramirez completes season-long loan to Hull
- Jos Hooiveld moves to Norwich on loan
- Saphir Taider's loan deal has been terminated
Well what a day it has been at Saints.
The club have signed Toby Alderweireld on a season long loan with the option of a £6m permanent deal and Sadio Mane for £10m.
Jos Hooiveld and Gaston Ramirez have gone to Norwich and Hull respectively on loan for the remainder of the season, while Jack Stephens and Jake Sinclair have secured temporary moves to Swindon until January and Hibs for the rest of the campaign.
Saphir Taider's brief stint at St Mary's has also officially come to an after just 26 days with his loan from Inter Milan terminated.
And as for the window as a whole...well, it's been emotional.
IN: Sadio Mane signs in £10m deal from Red Bull Salzburg
The 22-year-old Senegal international has joined from the Austrian club and has signed a four-year contract at St Mary's.
He is a strong defender, and is also very good at building up the play when we play out from the back. He played in the top league in Spain and against top teams in Europe, so he has a lot of confidence and experience, and he has a big future because he is still young. We needed competition in our squad, and with Toby here we now have a lot of possibilities and quality.”Saints boss Ronald Koeman on the signing of Toby Alderweireld
We are still waiting on confirmation of the Sadio Mane deal
Interesting comment from Alderweireld in his signing on statement to the club website.
With Maya Yoshida, Florin Gardos and Jose Fonte as centre half options and Nathaniel Clyne as first choice right back, it still seems he may well be a regular, so who misses out?
He said: "I had a good talk with the coach. First of all, it was very important for me to play this season and the coach gave me a good solution for that."
So that's one signing down and one to go...
IN: Toby Alderweireld completes his move to Saints
The 25-year-old defender has moved to the club on a one-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid. Saints also have an option to sign the player next summer.
Here's a bit of information from the Premier League, explaining how some deals can be done after 11pm...
Clubs sometimes conclude deals at the last minute and it is not always easy for them to get everything completed and sent over by 11pm. The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that a deal has been reached in order to allow for additional time to submit the remaining documentation. The sheet cannot be used prior to 9pm and needs to arrive fully completed before the transfer window closes. Once the sheet arrives, clubs have got until 1am in which to submit the full paperwork. But if a club are looking to complete an international transfer, it still has to comply with the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) deadline of midnight.Premier League
OUT: Jos Hooiveld joins Norwich on loan
The 31-year-old centre half has joined Championship side Norwich on loan for the season. His Saints contract expires next summer.
That's 11pm and the transfer window is officially shut. Still things happening behind the scenes, though. We're expecting Jos Hooiveld's loan move to Norwich to be announced soon, while Saints are still hoping to announce the signings of Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane.
OUT: Jack Stephens joins Swindon on loan
The 20-year-old defender has moved to the League One club until the end of January.
OUT: Gaston Ramirez joins Hull on a season-long loan
Ramirez has completed his move to Hull on a season-long loan. We understand he wanted first-team football, but couldn't be guaranteed that at Saints, especially with the impending arrival of Sadio Mane.
CONFIRMED: @gasramirez10 has completed a #deadlineday loan move to @HullCity until the end of the season. #saintsfc http://t.co/bmxk0SRgnW— @SouthamptonFC 01 September 2014
We understand that Gaston Ramirez's proposed season-long loan move to Hull is now looking increasingly likely, although it will still be tight to get it done before the deadline. The decision to possibly allow him to leave is believed to be partly related to the imminent signing of winger Sadio Mane, which would further reduce Ramirez's first-team chances. A switch to the Tigers would allow the 23-year-old to gain some regular first-team football this term.
We should also be able to bring you news on Toby Alderweireld very soon. An announcement regarding the defender's arrival is believed to be close.
One major deal that looks set to be confirmed elsewhere in the next hour is that of Danny Welbeck to Arsenal. The striker is reportedly on the verge of a £16m move from Manchester United, who themselves are still finalising the transfer of Monaco forward Radamel Falcao.
Just 90 minutes left to go before the deadline, so here's an update on the state of play:
- Toby Alderweireld's move to Saints is expected to be finalised soon
- The club are also optimistic Sadio Mane will sign before the deadline
- Hull are interested in taking Gaston Ramirez on loan, but a deal is far from definite
- Jos Hooiveld is set to join Championship side Norwich on a season-long loan
- Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin set to stay put
In terms of arrivals, Saints remain optimistic of completing deals for Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane. Alderweireld is likely to be the first one in, and that could happen fairly soon, while Mane is expected to be a bit closer to the deadline.
A slightly surprising one this, but Hull are keen to take Gaston Ramirez on loan. We're told there's a small possibility of a deal happening, but nothing is definite at this stage. We will update you as we hear more.
One outgoing that looks almost certain is centre-half Jos Hooiveld, who we expect to join Norwich for the season
Update: Toby Alderweireld from Atlético Madrid passed his medicals tonight at Southampton, but still no personal agreement. #SaintsFC— @svenclaes 01 September 2014
While we've all been focusing on deadline day, Saints legend Franny Benali has been out pounding the streets again, as he continues his epic 1,000-mile run to every Premier League ground in the country. Click here to read the latest update on his progress.
Away from Saints, Manchester United are finalising a blockbuster deadline day move for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao. It also looks as though they have also signed a defender, with Ajax announcing they have sold left-back Daley Blind, who can also play in midfield, to the club.

While today is mainly about who will be coming into Saints, it is also important to remember the key players who are set to stay. Most obviously, there is Morgan Schneiderlin, who looks certain to remain at St Mary's now, despite Tottenham's desire to sign him. Team captain Jose Fonte is delighted the midfielder is staying and has praised his professionalism, while Saints boss Ronald Koeman has done similar. Despite what the above picture suggests, though, Fonte has not actually employed the help of some of his colleagues to physically keep hold of the Frenchman until the clock strikes 11pm. They're just celebrating one of his two goals in the 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday. Well, that's what we think anyway.

We're into the last four hours of the window now, so let's have a quick update on where we are:
- Saints' top two targets, Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane, are close to completing moves to the club.
- Alderweireld and Mane have been undergoing medicals with Saints this afternoon.
- Saphir Taider has left the club, after his loan deal from Inter Milan was terminated.
- Saints are standing firm on Jay Rodriguez, despite Spurs making a push to sign him today.
- Jos Hooiveld could depart the club, with Norwich believed to be interested in the defender.
BREAKING NEWS! Harry Redknapp refuses the opportunity to lean out of his car window and speak to the Sky Sports reporter. This deadline day is full of twists and turns

Big Saints news
The Daily Echo understands that both Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane are undergoing medicals at the club.
If all goes well then they will be unveiled as Saints players before the close of the transfer window this evening.
As the Daily Echo has been reporting all day, the pair are Ronald Koeman's top targets for deadline day.
Hibs boss Alan Stubbs on the signing of Saints youngster Jake Sinclair on a season long loan.
"Jake will give us a few options in attack; through the middle and out wide. He is a really exciting player with genuine pace, who can hurt the opposition.
"He is an up-and-coming talent, who we've been aware of for some time and we're very happy he has agreed to join us on loan."

Still no news from Saints as the clock continues to tick down towards the deadline.
However, there is no to panic.
We understand that the club are still confident of completing two signings before the end of the window, with Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane still the top targets.
Also there are likely to be a few outs too in terms of fringe players, but this could be a late night.
Seems that Hull have reinvested a lot of the £12m Saints paid them for Shane Long.

@SouthamptonFC any chance of a refund?! http://t.co/rzKGW46zgu— @JBridle2 01 September 2014
Fair play to Saints who have agreed to replace it...probably best to wait until the transfer window closes though to decide which name and number to get printed this time.
If Alderweireld does join it will be interesting to see Ronald Koeman's thoughts in terms of where he fits in.
Of course, you cannot have too many good players, but he is of a calibre that suggests he is more than just a squad player.
For the centre half positions there is already competition between Florin Gardos, Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida. Nathaniel Clyne is performing well at right back.
If Alderweireld does join then don't be surprised to see Jos Hooiveld depart as Saints do not really need five experienced centre halves.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has told Sky that Virgil van Dijk will remain at the club.
He was the back up option to Toby Alderweireld.
However, that is not likely to be an issue as it seems that all progressing well as Saints look to confirm the signing of the Belgian.

All hail Sir Les Reed! The contracts have been flying around like confetti all summer and now, the time is near as he faces the deadline curtain.
Aberweireld and Mane would be the icing on the cake - Les can take a well-deserved holiday if that's his final business today.
Away from deadline day madness, Franny Benali is continuing his amazing effort to run between all the Premier League football grounds.
And one of his old Saints friends has just dropped by to surprise him...

That was also a very bold statement from Saints on Taider.
The club are trying to be open and honest in their communications and here is another example of exactly that.
Ronald Koeman was clearly not impressed by the player's attitude.
We are still awaiting the first signing at Saints today, but then across the Premier League it has been remakrably quiet, given this is expected to be an action packed day.
The calm before the storm or has deadline day been massively over hyped...again!
Saints have issued a statement about the termination of Saphir Taider's loan deal, suggesting they were not happy with the 22-year-old's efforts following his arrival from Inter Milan.
Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has agreed to terminate midfielder Saphir Taider’s loan spell. The midfielder joined Saints for the 2014/15 campaign but, having failed to live up to the high levels of commitment expected of Southampton players, that arrangement has been cut short by the club.Saints statement
OUT: Saphir Taider loan deal cancelled.
The first bit of business at Saints has been completed, with Saphir Taider's loan deal being cancelled, as expected. The midfielder, who only joined from Inter Milan last month, is returning to Italy.
Just a few minutes left to vote in our latest poll. It seems most people would be keen on Sadio Mane over Nathan Redmond.
BREAKING: Javier Hernandez joins Real Madrid on a season-long loan. Real have first buying option on the striker at the end of the loan.— @ManUtd 01 September 2014
Let's sum up the key points at Saints so far today:
- Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld is Saints' top defensive target, with the club edging closer to completing a deal for the Belgian international.
- The club are considering other options if that transfer does stall, with Celtic's Virgil van Dijk understood to be high on that list.
- Red Bull Salzburg winger Sadio Mane, who would cost about £12m, is Saints' preferred choice for a new winger.
- Norwich's Nathan Redmond is the other option being considered if a move for Mane fails.
- Tottenham keen on a cash-plus-Andros Townsend deal for Jay Rodriguez, but Saints rejecting their advances.
- Some fringe players may be allowed to leave St Mary's later on today.
THFC raise offer for Jay Rodriguez, which includes Andros Townsend. Townsend is prepared to go Saints http://t.co/Y4iKGiahnq— @SamWallaceIndy 01 September 2014
Some reports have emerged today saying that Saints are about to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel (pictured), however sources at St Mary's have suggested those are wide of the mark. Sadio Mane remains their preferred target in that position, with Norwich's Nathan Redmond also under consideration if a move for the Salzburg player stalls.
Time for another poll. Saints' main wing target today is Red Bull Salzburg's Sadio Mane, with Nathan Redmond the most likely option if that doesn't go through. But which player would you prefer? We'll run the ballot for the next hour, so get voting...
There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Jack Cork (pictured right) in recent weeks. The midfielder has just one year left on his contract with Saints, and Ronald Koeman has confirmed there are no immediate plans to offer him a new deal. However, the manager has also said he expects the 25-year-old, who had been earmarked to provide cover at right-back as well, to stay put this season. There has been interest in him from a number of clubs, including Crystal Palace and Swansea, although Saints have rebuffed all approaches so far. Whether that could change if Toby Alderweireld, who can play at right-back as well as in the centre of defence, signs remains to be seen.
CONFIRMED: Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of George Boyd from @HullCity. #BoydSigns http://t.co/aL1dSt1oAB— @BurnleyOfficial 01 September 2014
While Toby Alderweireld is Saints' main target in terms of a defensive signing today, the club have also been considering other options in case they cannot complete a deal for the Belgian international. One of those is understood to be Celtic centre hald Virgil van Dijk (pictured above right). The 23-year-old seems keen to leave the Scottish club, following their failure to reach the Champions League group stages. It has been reported that he would cost about £8m.
Saints defender and team captain Jose Fonte is one player who is watching the events of deadline day with interest, according to this post on his Instagram account...
Fonte added the message: "Never disappoints!!! Let's hope it's a good day for us!!! #wemarchon"
Here's how the Atletico Madrid website describes Saints target Toby Alderweireld...
An all terrain defender. Alderweireld is a true Ajax product. Powerful in the air and stylish on the ball, the Belgian is a safe bet at the back.Atletico Madrid
Sky have reported that Saints have made a £15m bid for Andros Townsend.
That would be a huge surprise and highly unlikely.
The Daily Echo understands that Saints' number one target for a winger is Sadio Mane.
Nathan Redmond of Norwich is the other option in that position.
Saints gave up on Townsend a while ago.
Interesting Saints target facts - number one.
Sadio Mane played for Senegal at the London Olympics in 2012.
He could well join Saints today from Salazburg for a fee of around £11.8m.
Brace yourselves for a confirmed Premier League deal, the first of the day.
Karim El Ahmadi has moved from Aston Villa to Feyenoord.
Sounds like Man United have agreed a one-year loan deal for Ramadel Falcao. You can never have enough strikers!
We though still awaiting official confirmation, and the first formal Premier League signing of the day.
Saints fans agree with Ronald Koeman’s transfer priorities, according to our snap poll.
When asked which position they would most like to see Saints strengthen before the close of the transfer window, voters named a winger top with 40 per cent, closely followed by a defender with 33.
Just 21 per cent wanted another striker while four per cent said a central midfielder and one per cent another keeper.
Saints fans may be somewhat stunned to hear that David McGoldrick is the subject of rumours linking him an £8m move today.
McGoldrick, who scored 15 goals in 70 appearances for Saints, is currently at Ipswich and wanted by Leicester.
One name that has popped up over the weekend is Sadio Mane.
The Daily Echo understands that he is a player on the Saints shortlist as they target a winger.
The Senegal international had a great season for Salzburg last time out, scoring 13 goals as they won the league and cup double.
He would cost around £12m.
The Daily Echo understands that Saints will not entertain a widely reported swap deal involving Jay Rodriguez and Andros Townsend.
Though a few fringe players are expected to leave the club today, Saints are adamant that they are holding onto their top stars.
Former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has been keen to land Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin, but the club are standing firm.
Just as a quick reminder, this is what has happened at Saints since the end of last season.
Ins: Dusan Tadic (FC Twente) £12m, Graziano Pelle (Feyenoord) £8m, Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea) Loan, Saphir Taider (Inter Milan) Loan, Fraser Forster (Celtic) £10m, Shane Long (Hull City) £12m, Florin Gardos (Steaua Bucharest) £6m.

Buddy SFC says
Happy if one or two join but I'll be happier still if we get to the end of the day and we still have Morgan and Corkie !!
Fair play RonKom, a rather tidy squad starting to build I reckon !!
The start of the day seems the perfect time to let you guys have your say, with a snap, one hour ballot.
In terms of a winger, we await to see where Saints go.
They are interested in Norwich's Nathan Redmond, having had a big for him turned down earlier in the summer. This is also seen as an easy deal to make on deadline day.
Andros Townsend of Tottenham has also interested the club, but Spurs have dug their heels in over that one after Saints' refusal to sell them Morgan Schneiderlin.
They have also been linked with an £11.8m bid for Salzburg's Sadio Mane.
This is latest from a Belgian journalist
Toby Alderweireld will fly to England in 1,5 hour to finalise his season-long loan move to Southampton. #saintsfc— @HLNinEngeland 01 September 2014
If Alderweireld does join it will inevitably lead to further speculation about the futures of the likes of Jack Cork and Jos Hooiveld.
Both men are in the finla year of their contracts, and will fall behind the Belgian in the pecking order at centre half and right back.
Saints will also be aware their value will decrease dramatically after the close of this window.
Saints have been heavily linked in Belgium with the signing of Toby Alderweireld.
As previously reported in the Daily Echo, Saints have been keen to land the Belgian international, who can play at both centre half and right back.
Now though reports in Belgium suggest he may well arrive at the club today on a season long loan.
Hello and welcome to the Daily Echo’s live blog on transfer deadline day.
After the most remarkable summer of business in Saints’ history, finally Ronald Koeman will have a settled squad to work with when the window closes at 11pm.
Unusually for Saints, this could be a busy deadline day.
The club are hoping for two new signings – a defender and a winger.
If they do come in then it is possible a fringe player or two could depart.
Saphir Taider is also expected to complete his move away from the club less than a month after joining on a season long loan.
And, with the madness of deadline day upon us, who knows what else will happen.
Obviously, Saints will be our main focus, but we will also keep you up-to-date with the big moves in the Premier League and those featuring people with a Saints connection.
