You'd think we were 30 points adrift in December judging by the howling from some of these whiners, lol. We absolutely robbed ManU for Shaw, Lallana just injured himself, Lambert hit his peak at the perfect time for Saints and has at most two more years left in him, and Lovren is an overrated tosser. With even two more signings the squad will be at the same point it was last year, and if we push on from there, we'll be stronger. People comparing us to Tottenham last year are making a bad judgement error: Southampton have an actual style of play, and we're buying players who are compatible with it, unlike Spur's kid-in-a-candy-shop approach.
    Spot on mate.

Here is the saints team that finished 8th and lined up against Man U on 11th May 2014

    31 Boruc
    02 Clyne
    23 Shaw Booked
    04 Schneiderlin
    06 Fonte
    05 Lovren
    18 Cork
    12 Wanyama
    07 Lambert
    08 Davis
    20 Lallana

    Substitutes

    21 Do Prado
    22 Chambers

We now have a better coach, more money and with a bit of tinkering the squad will be stronger. We are building for the long term and I just want to stay in the EPL for many years to come."

Liverpool have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £20m for Saints defender Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian centre half has long been angling for a move to Anfield, after the Premier League runner-ups' interest in him was revealed.

At one point, he even threatened to not return to Staplewood following the World Cup in a bid to force through the move to Liverpool.

Manger Ronald Koeman said last week that he was prepared to let Lovren go if the Reds met Saints' asking price, as he did not want players at Southampton who did not want to be there.

He will be the third Southampton player to swap the South Coast for the North West this summer, following in the footsteps of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

In total, Liverpool have paid Saints around £49m for the three players, which is half of the total outlay Brendan Rodgers has put on seven new signings.

Lovren joined Saints from French side Lyon for a fee of £8.5m last summer.

It is understood he will undergo a medical tomorrow before finalising the move.
