Southampton youngsters Cody Cropper and Jake Sinclair sign new contracts with the club

Basingstoke Gazette: Jake Sinclair Jake Sinclair

Saints youngsters Cody Cropper and Jake Sinclair have signed new one-year contracts with the club.

The development squad duo follow in the footsteps of Omar Rowe and Sam McQueen in extending their deals.

American goalkeeper Cropper, 21, told Saints’ website: “It feels great to sign.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for me, as a player, to come in and work hard under the new staff and hopefully earn another contract.”

Sinclair, a 20-year-old forward, said: “I’m delighted to sign.

“I’ve been here since I was eight and hopefully I can carry on progressing as I was last season and hopefully I can get in the manager’s plans for this season.”

Someone who wants to stay that's good now let's replace CB, Midfield, an out and out goal scorer, and some back up with another keeper then we should be set for new season and get them in early so they have time to blend as a team

Why the thumbs down
I would have thought the events of the last week would tell you that contracts are a waste of time as far as the clubs are concerned and I did wish the lads well IDIOTS

Saying it as you see it mate - the evidence of the last few weeks can only lead to this conclusion.

Hopefully these two will go on to earn a place in the first team where we can sell them for a profit.

Who knows we might one day find someone who puts cash in a secondary position to pride and job satisfaction and a great working environment.

Well done lads - don't waste the opportunity you've both just earned.

I understand where you are coming from but don't agree. To a 20 year old lad trying to live his dream I'd imagine this contract is worth everything. Even in the case of Shaw and Lallana it's still worth £50+ pounds.

Contracts now only seem to confirm what players will be paid and mean nothing about commitment other than if they decide to leave we will at least get a decent fee for them.

Therefore giving these two only a one year contract means they can walk away anyway at the end of next season for nothing so seems pointless.

However at 20 & 21 yrs old, if they don't start to show something this season then we would best release them anyway, so up to them.

Just announced on Radio Solent that Matt Targett is expected to fill the LB slot and we are no longer looking for a LB which means Rambo has found an understudy even younger to fill in as sub or he expect Nat Clyne to cover at LB also.
Either way according to the radio it has saved Saints several million. Love a happy ending to the day.

This IS going to be the best season ever!

Good News if they think Matty is ready to step up and make the position his. However if he is not ready then we could be found wanting when the transfer window closes.

I would prefer that we buy a quality LB and have competition for places as well as cover for injuries and suspension etc just as we have at RB.

Five days in it is now time for RonKo to speak to the fans and explain his exceptions etc as well as the situation with the players.
He must keep Morgan (and make him captain) and all the rest although it looks as though Lovren has forced the situation so sell for £20m and sign two of the Dutch CB's or one & Caulker from Cardiff. Only Osvaldo to use as a part exchange maybe.

Fully understand what you mean but to be fair if there were no contracts in place we'd lose player's for nothing.
Great to see Matty T has made the left back slot his (if this is true) He's better than Shaw was at the same stage of his development, lets hope he want's to stay with Saint's and not go to the club he has supported throughout his young life (another Liverpool fan) by all accounts
