Saints will host Bayer Leverkusen in their final pre-season friendly this summer.

The German club, who finished fourth in the Bundesliga last term, will visit St Mary's on Saturday, August 9 (kick-off 5pm).

The game will represent Saints' only home friendly of the summer, as is their tradition.

Games against Swindon, Bournemouth and Brighton are already lined up in July, while the club will soon announce another fixture against a European side away from home.

Executive director Les Reed said of the Leverkusen match: “We’re hoping that’ll be a bit of a festival, presentation game where the fans will get the chance to see the new players that we’ve brought in and welcome the new manager and any new coaching staff, and hopefully kick off the season with a really upbeat atmosphere at St Mary’s.”

SAINTS' PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE:

Monday, July 21: Swindon (a) (7.30pm)

Friday, July 25:  Bournemouth (a) (7.45pm)

Thursday, July 31: Brighton (a) (7.45pm)

Saturday, August 9: Bayer Leverkusen (h) (5pm)

There you go! These are the sort of circles we're moving in. We're going to be picking from the cream of emerging European talent when it comes to managers and players, not some bloke who managed to avoid getting Hull relegated.

(Although I do quite like Brucie as a bloke so, like, no offence.)

Good to see some positive news albeit just the announcement of a friendly. Hope we get the manager sorted soon. Will be interesting as it will, I believe, indicate something of the boards intentions and vision for this next step of the journey. Most of the European managers mentioned would be a signal of intent in a good way unfortunatley Steve Bruce would signal the opposite intent!. I see on TalkSport they are saying Danny Ings is one of top targets to replace SRL...again potential to be a great player as with Jay but I would like a proven goalscorer at this level bought in alongside him too. A Bony or Lukaku or Benteke type!...Never an easy ride being a Saints fan but we'll still support wherever the journey takes us next

De Boer was mentioned on one forum, again, with some unknown twitter account saying he would be unveiled on Tuesday.

Probably a WUM, but he would be better than the other possibles, especially if he brings his brother to run the academy.

Would imagine there would be a lot of paperwork though.

I told you - he was at Staplewood yesterday afternoon.

Martinez has been checking out two of his Feyenoord players so let's hope they get the formalities done soon or we run the risk of losing out. Though if it is going to be Koeman - I would guess he's confident he can bring some fresh Dutch blood into the team. All of their defenders are pretty tasty.

Next Southampton manager set to be Ronald Koeman as he agrees terms with Saints

Ronald Koeman is set to become Southampton’s new manager.

The Holland legend agreed terms on Friday to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at St Mary’s, and is expected to be unveiled when he returns from holiday.

He was first interviewed a fortnight ago but the deal looked to have stalled because of a dispute over the transfer budget he demanded.

However, the Saints' owner Katharina Liebherr has now promised Koeman a sizeable war chest to revamp the squad he'll inherit.

The ex-Valencia and PSV Eindhoven manager, 51, quit Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season following a three-year stint in charge.

Saints drew up a four-man shortlist to replace new Spurs chief Pochettino, including Fulham boss Felix Magath, but ex-Barcelona ace Koeman was always their preferred choice.

His desire to play attractive football and blood young players fitted the Saints’ criteria.

Katharina has agreed to Koeman's transfer chest, so if we tell all our 'want away' players they must stay we could have a hell of a squad next season !!

Like this positive comment. We should make a proper offer for Borini of Liverpool who was excellent on loan at Sunderland last season

We already have some of the best in their field at the club and I'm sure Koeman will have his own team to bring with him. People want to work for this fella so there will be no shortage of names pushed forward but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Bit of a turn up now the real big boys are eyeing up Lovren. Bit of a no brainer Barca v Liverpool - that's IF he did ask for a transfer and there's been no confirmation that I know of yet that he has. Just paper talk as usual.

Of course there is a faint chance he hasn't said anything and does not want to go anywhere.

If Barca comes calling though - difficult not to give the player his chance there with perhaps a buy back clause in the contract.

Koeman is an average manager and his record proves that.
None of you have ever seen any of his teams play but you pretend to.just to fit in.
Bruce will be announced as boss and I will laugh ha ha ha ha ha in your ugly faces
You're in Melbourne, right?

You're a skate, right?

I so hope I'm wrong, but I fear you might be married to a distant reli of mine.

What the f*** did I do wrong in a past life?
Sammy2sheds Are you named after Pompey,s stands?

Maybe you're his punishment for something he did in a past life. Think about how envious he will be for the rest of his life.
Karma, RS, karma :-)
