SAINTS midfielder Gaston Ramirez has been named in Uruguay's World Cup finals squad.

Ramirez, Saints' record signing when he arrived in the summer of 2012 for £12m, started just three Premier League games in the season just finished.

Striker Luis Suarez is one of two Liverpool players in Oscar Tabarez's squad along with defender Sebastian Coates, who has been on loan at first club Nacional since January.

The 23-year-old missed Uruguay's last four qualifiers for the finals in Brazil and their play-off win over Jordan in November after suffering a knee ligament injury in August.

West Brom defender Diego Lugano is the fourth English-based player in the squad.

Congratulations Gaston. Looking forward to an injury free season next time where you can strut your stuff and show your true worth. I wish I had half your skill and flair. A classy pro who seems to just go about his business with no mouthing, no great drama, no assaulting of teammates (frequently important in the choice of a player funnily enough) an undemanding pro who seems willing to give something back to the club in return for his wages - we have not seen the best of this lad yet. Hope you remain in Saints plans.

I think he will surprise a few next season, if he can stay injury-free.
