Liverpool want to sign Southampton's Adam Lallana 'before the World Cup'

Basingstoke Gazette: Adam Lallana Adam Lallana

LIVERPOOL will reportedly test the Saints board’s resolve to keep hold of their best players by tabling a bid for Adam Lallana.

There is fresh speculation this morning that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will table a bid for the St Mary’s skipper as soon as the curtain is brought down on the 2013/14 Premier League season this Sunday.

And it is reported that Liverpool want a deal for Lallana, who celebrates his 26th birthday tomorrow, wrapped up before England’s opening World Cup game on June 8.

Speaking at his pre-match conference this morning Mauricio Pochettino had no further information to report.

He admitted: "I pretty much have the same information as you have, the same as you received through the media.

"The club has not spoken to me officially about anything so I have the same information as you have."

Saints director Les Reed recently admitted that the club had received no bids for any of their prize assets.

Lallana, under contract at Saints until the summer of 2018, this week said that the club’s board, headed by chairman Ralph Krueger, face a massive summer.

“There will be decisions made in the summer on what kind of route the club will take in terms of whether we really do push on and go again and look to really improve.

“If that’s the case, we want to keep our best players and manager.”

Lallana, who scooped four awards at Saints’ presentation evening earlier this week, has scored nine goals in 37 Premier League games this season.

He has started all but one of the club’s league games, and come on as a sub in the other.

Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard are the only other midfielders to have scored more league goals than Lallana this term, while Aaron Ramsey and Raheem Sterling have also scored nine.

It would be a shame, if he stays and with a little bit of tweaking at the back and MP in charge I think Saints could go for top 4 easy, just give him the wage he wants, they cant replace him without spending more not to mention the massive benefit he brings to the young players coming through.

Why are people having a go at the echo? Of course this is news, sky sports news had it as breaking news on their onscreen ticker last night and have been running it as the headline story ever since! The news that diverpool want lalla isn't news but the fact they are going to bid and want the deal tied up before the England squad leave is certainly news.

As I said last night, they can bid all they like but if lalla is happy here and the board don't want to sell its a non starter anyway.

A massive Summer ahead for sure. For me it's all about MP signing a long term contract with the club. I think he'll stay and that les reed and RK will hit the ground running Monday morning with matters being wrapped up in the next couple of weeks well before the World Cup. Personally I feel once that's sorted it will show us all that funds will be made available to MP to strengthen the squad and he will have been given assurances that none of our best players will be sold. Then all the pieces will fall into place. Here's blooming well hoping so anyway.

I did see the ticker tape flowing last night on sky sports news and saw it here on the DE. I initially laughed it off and thought to myself this will be a massively stressful summer for all concerned.

However looking at Alex Crooks twitted account last night ( he is part of the media setup internally at SFC) he tweeted that he can confirm that AL's represenatives have for the last few days been speaking Bournemouth FC regarding the sell on %. Now usually twitter, paper and hear say gets ignored but because of his position at SFC i am slightly worried this actually is a starter.

Along with IMO Adam's strange speech at the awards ceremony, i am starting to get slightly concerned.

This Summer as we all know is pivetal in which direction we will be going down. If MP signs a new contract with SFC AL will not go, MP will not sign if AL is going to go or goes and AL will want to stay if MP stays.

Out of all the players currently being linked elsewhere i feel AL is the one true player that is irreplaceable, You can get LB's you can get ST's but a player of AL ability and what he does on the pitch, it's like James Arthur in the music industry, it's unique, unusual, must not be tampered with and everyone wants it.

Come on Horse, aren't you just a wee bit tired of having the same tired rumours day after day?

This week's interview with Adam was great, there have been other great stories, too, and there does have to be the occasional story about speculative transfer news. However, using the not-so-reliable national gutter press as a source and just throwing every possible rumour at us really isn't journalism, it's garbage. Wasn't it you who said that if the press (which includes Sky) dig up every possible story for every player and every potential buyer, then if at least one proves correct they can spread it around that they were right? From the past 4 seasons, I reckon they've been right about 5% of the time.

Echo? Give it a rest - pop over to Staplewood and ask for an interview with the 4 academy lads who made it into the England U21s. (What's it like to train with this squad, what about representing England? .....) THAT'S interesting.

The big concern for me is not whether he is happy or not but what value he puts on playing for a big club with huge support, Champions League football, money, the style of football Liverpool play, the players they have, the ones they are likely to attract in the future and the possibility of replacing Stephen Gerrard as captain in the near future. A big temptation.

If that is what he wants, and none of us know what he wants, it won't matter what the board want. He will go. I hope he doesn't.

As I said previously about Luke Shaw, this is becoming something far more important than a mere transfer. The decision-making made by the board (as I am sure everyone is aware) could be pivotal for the future of the club itself. We need a statement of intent and as so many other writers on this site have said, it could be make or break for Southampton Football Club.
Admittedly Man U sold Ronaldo and Arsenal sold Van Persie, but I am sure we agree that they were crazy decisions. However, everyone knows that selling one star player isn't going to suddenly stop Man U or Arsenal from being "big" clubs.
It is different with us. We are still trying to move up with the big boys. We do not have the aura, player-enticing capacity, confidence or "prestige" that the top 4 have. If we start selling, I sincerely believe that it will send out a message of mediocrity. A message that, deep down, SFC knows in its heart that it will never truly make it. And that would be a shame.

Agreed. How the club deals with this interest in our players is not just about business – it's symbolic. The club's values are being tested.

The so-called big clubs (a concept I loathe by the way) are circling, probing, judging our board's resolve. If they get their way, our progress will stall, possibly even reverse, and we will forever be marked down as a selling club. It's rare that a team is in position to challenge the hegemony of Utd, City, etc. Saints are in place to do so at the moment, but it could all unravel if the board makes the wrong move. Here's hoping they hold their nerve.

Stras I'm as board and fed up as the next man about all these ongoing rumours and for now believe the board when they say they will try their hardest to keep the players.
On this occasion though the echo have to run with this story, whether we like it or not. Why shouldn't the echo run with a story that has been given so much 'airtime' by SSN? The echo haven't run every rumour thats been in the media and although the rumour is nothing new, or newsworthy, the fact that diverpool are said to be making a bid and want the deal done before the world cup is new and newsworthy. No doubt MP will be asked about this today and will asked again and again, so the echo should be telling us what hes going to be asked about.
I still don't think we will sell him though and especially not before the world cup, that would make absolutely no sense. I don't even particularly believe this rumour and think its just diverpool attempting to unsettle lalla. As others have said, its going to be a long, long summer and with no football until the world cup and we are going to have to entertain ourselves on threads like this even if MP signs and the club and players say they are staying!

Some on here believe that the Echo should only print happy stories about the saints.

The story is everywhere this morning and expecting the Echo not to run with it is a little bit silly.

It would be nice to think that all of our better players are as loyal as us fans, but in the real world players move around 2/3 times during their careers.

Don't know if this is true or not but lets face it, there will be bids for our players this summer and rejecting them will only attract more, so better hold on tight and keep calm because this is only the start.
And blaming the Echo for running this story is a bit harsh. They have a business to run and if Sky are reporting it, there is no reason why they shouldn't.

Please, PLEASE do not compare the great Adam Lallana to the sorry excuse for "Talent" that is James Arthur, what on earth were you thinking! Go and sit on the naughty step young man!! COYR

So if the board were to announce that we have accepted a bid of £30 million for Luke Shaw and that the intention was to buy three 10 million pound players to strengthen the side in order to keep improving, would that be a statement of intent or not?
We've heard that before haven't we. We just had to cash in on this extraordinary offer so as to be able to "improve" our club. Do people really believe that!

Saints have allegedly contacted the Premier League to warn them that they may not be able to put out a side for the beginning of the 2014/15 season.
Sources close to St Mary's have revealed that the Club may have already spoken to the Premier League and issued a warning that they may not be able to field a side for the start of the 2014/15 season.
At the moment they are able to fulfill their obligations to the League for this season, but there are severe doubts whether they will still be able to do the same for next season, after secret documents published in the media were disclosed
Skip advertisement
Those media sources have already reported that many members of the Saints squad have allegedly already agreed deals with top Premier Clubs in some cases with two even three clubs and this will impact on Saints ability to get out 11 players.
So far its been confirmed that Luke Shaw will be signing for both Manchester City and Chelsea and may also find time to turn out for Manchester United.
Adam Lallana has agreed a deal with Manchester United as well as Liverpool and Spurs, Callum Chambers will be leaving St Mary's to play for Spurs and Arsenal, Jay Rodriguez has already signed for Arsenal and expects to sign a similar deal for Liverpool in the coming weeks.
Morgan Schneiderlin will follow on his signing for Arsenal every summer for the past four years by again succumbing to Arsene Wenger's offer this year, whilst Victor Wanyama has not only signed for Manchester City but Liverpool and Newcastle as well.
Sam Gallagher is so far resisting most offers but it was confirmed in this morning's press he has agreed to sign for Chelsea to join Dejan Lovren on the days he isnt playing for Spurs
On a brighter note though Rickie Lambert is likely to return to just playing for Saints after leaving for Upton Park in the January window.
All in all though it will mean that Saints will struggle to field a side for next season if the press sign any more of our squad for the big 5 before August.
However its not all doom and gloom, on one hand the club will have plenty of money to invest in the 2014/15 increased ISA allowance and will also be able to upgrade the public address system that will be vital if we are to make up the numbers from appeals to the crowd next term.
Saints new Chairman Ralph Krueger if he had been asked would probably not have commented.
" It has been a tough first week for me in my new job, I arrived to find most of our squad have already signed for other clubs for next season, I appeal for our supporters not to panic and stay calm, in the meantime if any of them have any wheelbarrows we could use to take the cash up the bank then we as a club will be grateful"
Harking back to his recent comments on returning to the traditions of the club he said
" I believe back in the second world war that it was not uncommon for the club to have to appeal to the crowd for players to make up the numbers, it pleases me to announce that we will return to that tradition with effect from next season and urge all supporters to get to the ground early and bring their boots"
"I wish all the players leaving for Arsenal/Spurs/Liverp
ool/Man City/Man Utd (*delete as appropriate) the best and if anyone has got change of a £40 million pound note it would be helpful"
On a brighter note the club is to appear on the Antiques Roadshow on Sunday where Fiona Bruce will give a valuation on a set of spoons recently found at St Mary's which are believed to date back to 2009.

Of course this is a newsworthy story no matter where the scource. Les Reed has said a couple of times quite specifically there has been no contact with any club re any player. Said it on the telly so it has to be true (doesn't it?) Adam is the best player we've had since Le-Tiss and Marian were forced out of the game and we might, just might, lose him - now if there's a Saints fan who's not interested in hearing all developments in that story I'd be surprised.
Now we have the first inkling that something concrete has happened or is about to happen - why would we be not interested. Just for once I'll stick up for the Echo - well reported. It's one thing seeing on sky sports (which I did not btw) and another being in the local media where more local fans can pick the story up with a little more clarity than being merely hot off the press of the gossip mill on Sky Sport new. Personally I think it depends on the player involved. The examples of Ronaldo and RVP above are a case in point. Strikers of quality are the most important and as Liverpool have proven, holding on to them is paramount. A left back, however is far more easily replaced .Nat Clyne cost us just a few million yet he is equally as effective as Luke if not more so. Agreed Luke could go on to be worth more in the long term but that is speculation. We arn't going to produce a Gareth Bale evey year. As for Adam, which this article is about, he is our club captain, a great role model, and fast becoming our talisman ahead of SRL.We should hold on to him if we possibly can.

And that would be a shame.[/p]
So if the board were to announce that we have accepted a bid of £30 million for Luke Shaw and that the intention was to buy three 10 million pound players to strengthen the side in order to keep improving, would that be a statement of intent or not?[/p]
We've heard that before haven't we. We just had to cash in on this extraordinary offer so as to be able to "improve" our club. Do people really believe that![/p]
Clever Dick

I do not think there's anything wrong with obtaining an article from another Tabloid, we either believe it or ignore it but it does annoy like an itch that won't go away because it's about the Players of the team we love Southampton.

Adam says that rumours can be good for proof that the Team and in particular the Players are progressing and getting a lot of attention but I bet all the Supporters have varied views, Adams personal statement is good for him but the rumours over the last few weeks have got under my skin, no matter what Adam says we do not want to lose our best Players and Manager so we would rather not read or hear about activity that could be true until we know the true picture.

I believe that after all that's been said by the Players and Manager they too want to know how ambitious the Club is, I would be amazed that it has changed from the first week that Mauricio started working at the Club and what he and Cortese wanted for the Club, surely it's logic the Club would not take one step forward and two steps back it would be ludicrous, the board knows there's only two directions onwards and upwards

As I said last night, they can bid all they like but if lalla is happy here and the board don't want to sell its a non starter anyway.
Some on here believe that the Echo should only print happy stories about the saints.

The story is everywhere this morning and expecting the Echo not to run with it is a little bit silly.

It would be nice to think that all of our better players are as loyal as us fans, but in the real world players move around 2/3 times during their careers.
It's not about whether to run with THIS story or any other story. It's that there isn't balance. This is one of countless national rag stories about speculation and rumour that the DE has chosen to cut and paste these past few months. I can count the amount of stories that would balance these (Les Reed's statement, Artur's record, the Adam interview etc.) on one hand.

I don't expect the DE to be a mouthpiece for the club and never have, nor do I expect it to only print 'happy' stories, as you put it. I do expect it to be balanced by having about the same amount of positive coverage as negative/rumouring coverage, and, if commenting on speculation, I expect it to write its own copy balancing the speculation with some commentary about the FACTS. Alas, the wider media (and DE is just as guilty) are peddling rumour dressed as fact so as to instil among the public the idea that the rumours are facts. There's a journalistic term for it (Retford will know it).

I bet there's not ONE journo who has reported any one of these recent rumours who would right now be prepared to stick their neck on the line and state that X is going to Y and if it doesn't happen they would tender their resignation and move to Kaboul - not one.

Any one or all of the rumoured transfers could go ahead - but not ONE can be so guaranteed that they are right now FACT. Meanwhile, it is a fact that 4 of our academy players are in the U21 squad and would be worth interviewing. (DE, I look forward to reading about it.)

Wow you're a bundle of fun aren't you? Sell the story to Sky Sports it has to be more reliable than the rest of the nonsense they get on their rumour mill.

Let's, just for the sake of argument, accept you have been a fly on the wall at the last board meeting and know these are factual moves and not the wild imaginings a tortured pessimist. As long as there are cheaper replacements to be purchased that Poochy has in his sights and a couple more on top to booster the size of the squad, then he's done his job. Sell when the stock is buy something cheaper and work to make that better - that's what managers are for. As long as Poochy can do that he'll be considered a great manager. If he can't then best he holds on to the crown jewels he's got or his face will appear on dart boards all along the human end of the M27.

Well done, this time, DE.
It's the first inkling? We've been having these inklings for weeks, JLS, and the DE and the national rags have been telling us for weeks. I'm interested in reading some FACTS.

I've just re-read the article and, NO, regarding the headline, there's not one solid fact. Look at the headline and the first three paragraphs.

PMSL. Nice to hear the tradition of calling in the crowd to make up the short fall will be re-instated, take football back to its grass roots. Make it official and submit it to the board mate. Once I've stopped giggling I'll do the dishes.

Why aren't the papers printing the comments Lallana made out the Southampton Awards Dinner??? He said he is looking forward to pushing on with Southampton next season. What's that? This won't sell as many papers...but it's the truth! People don't want the truth? They want the speculation to excite them. I do admit that newspapers would have nothing to print if they didn't print on speculation so there's no point in getting bothered by it.

He has been and continues to be an example for all young players and has been committed to the club which has nurtured him and nobody could question that if he did decide to move on for a new challenge but as many others have said already he will move from being a big player at an upwardly mobile club to another creative player in a big club where he may only play half as many games in a season and potentially fail to live up to the price tag placed upon his head. I can understand a desire to play champions league footie and earn some more money but time is still on his side to give it another season with us. Anyway whatever happens lets enjoy the ride.

Every player at every club has a price. I hope we are not in a position where forced to sell anyone; so the question is just what valuation to place on our star players? The price whereby the team could be improved overall by taking the cash and re-investing it to strengthen.

The rumour is that Liverpool will bid £20m. Get out! Personally I think £40m-£45m before worth considering a bid for Lalla, but what do others think is a realistic fee?

Poch on Sky, says "At the end of the United game it will be the culmination of the Five Year Plan. Now everyone is going to have to sit down and discuss the Next Plan", so I guess once the new Groups ambitions are made clear we will see any changes needed to acomplish it, that could include a shake up of Manager, Players and anything else involved. We can speculate as much as we want to, but until the Official stance is made clear we will be non the wiser. That includes any pending transfers I would imagine, nothing, I fear is going to happen in a hurry.

At the moment I suspect the Lallana thing is just another attempt to rock the boat before another big game, something that has happened a bit too often this Season, mostly without affect.

It's simple - sell the family silver and be happy with mid tabvel mediocrity as the ambition - the occassional flirt with relegation a necessary business risk. If we do the board go - but they have made their money during their tenure.

Keep the family silver and compete.

The issue here - is sport. As fans we want to get up every morning thinking you can win. Struggle to get to the position we are in to settle for mediocrity - even at top level just doesn't do it for me. Who wants to pay £700 a year to see such limited ambition?

So statement please - which is it to be?

Please, PLEASE do not compare the great Adam Lallana to the sorry excuse for "Talent" that is James Arthur, what on earth were you thinking! Go and sit on the naughty step young man!! COYR
Apologise' i didn't mean to cause an issue or insult AL.... I was just trying to say that IMO James Arthur is unique and alot different to the usual trash that is out there and they all become 1 as there isn't really any difference between them.

Where as AL in the footballing world :D is so unique and different to most midfielders that he stands out from the rest and is wanted by most.

As I said last night, they can bid all they like but if lalla is happy here and the board don't want to sell its a non starter anyway.
Just like a certain LIVERPOOL forward last year . What was his name and where is he now???. Wonder how he is getting on now???.

Why post negative all the time?, why don't we all wait and see what happens when this season is finished. Then if offers do come in for our players we can all judge for ourselves which way our clubs ambitions points.

If Ozil can go for 42 million, Adam must be worth well into the thirties. In the end he is not replaceable if we are truly a club wanting to move up. He is only for sale when he is past his prime and we need a new Adam L.

I think that's a bit disrespectful to be honest, especially in terms of players such as Adam. Cash would be a minor factor, but I think the only reason he'd leave Saints is if our aspirations don't match what he has the potential to achieve and, clearly, any sane player would be reasonably excited about playing alongside Suarez in a team with title potential. I wouldn't begrudge Adam that. However, as he's rightly said, if we show the true ambition to make positive strides forward this squad and manager is without doubt capable of fighting with the top six. Even as the squad stands we can feel unlucky not to be a couple of positions higher, with obvious areas to strengthen we're capable of much more.

I'd say the manager and players are wanting proof that the board truly believes we can challenge the top four and, while they are clearly committed to a positive future for the club, I don't think they see this as viable, unless we do it on a sensible budget with a continued pipeline of young players.

I can fully understand that stance because we have to live within our means, not least due to financial fair play rules, but I'm concerned it will mean that MP and Adam are likely to go. Luke I think everyone expects to move on at some point, but Adam and MP are the key ones in terms of our intent.

This company, veho, being touted on another forum as our new shirt sponsors, with the announcement coming later today. Allegedly at 5pm.
Headquarters in Hampshire, but not known to me.
their Website lists Southampton as HQ but only gives a PO Box address. They have offices over the world so would fit in with the clubs global exposure. Hopefully this will be a big Sponsorship deal as we really need the money.
Rumour has it Saints are about to sign Sterling from Liverpool, Lukaka from Chelsea and Curtis Davies from Hull! Well I doubt it but then I don't believe any of the rumours about Saints players either.

On a completely different note isn't it a shame we didn't throw ourselves into the FA Cup this season, Hull could quite easily have been us playing Arsenal in the final and the chance of silverware would that have made it easier to keep hold of some of our players? I think you and I (and JLS ..... and many others) agree on most things, Horse. I guess It's not THIS specific topic or the DE article that has got to me today, but the combination of so, so much cr4p with nothing to back it up.

It might turn out to be true ...... it might not. No one knows for sure, not even those involved.

It's so easy to make stuff up, print it, and watch the rumour become assumed as fact.

For example:

'According to sources, Simon Carter has been head hunted by the Portsmouth News and is reportedly taking up his new role as Fashion Editor before Paris Fashion Week in June. Meanwhile, speculation continues to mount that Adam Leitch, who only last week stated his commitment to the Echo, has already signed a 5-year deal with the Romsey Advertiser.'

Grief! This is easy, I'm on a roll .....

'It has been widely reported that Gordon Simpson is wanted by the Brighton Argus as a replacement for their office mascot, (sorry Gordon) while Dan Kerris could be on his way to the Liverpool Echo in part exchange for some scouse g!t who thinks the sun shines out of Luis Suarez's ........' (sorry, I got a bit carried away at the end, but you get the drift.)

Maybe, to lighten the mood on here, the DE could write a parody of what's going on, mixing some of the 'real' stories with some corking good nonsense, such as, for example: 'Danny Fox is about to sign for Bayern and the £2m windfall Saints will receive is to be invested in a medical for Matty Holland; expect him to sign within the week ......'

If the DE won't do it, maybe the funny guys on here could help ..... Confucious and Clever Dick, over to you.

I have a feeling about what is going to happen next week after the Manure game: the board will sit down with Poch and tell him their future plans for the club, Poch will sign a contract extension, the club will then make a statement confirming he has signed, there will then be a press conference where details about the board's plans for the future of the club will be unveiled, all the players we want to stay will stay and we will all be happy. Then the club will work quietly to get a major signing done and dusted quickly and continue to work quietly on other transfers.

As I said last night, they can bid all they like but if lalla is happy here and the board don't want to sell its a non starter anyway.

I am sure we have ambition but to what degree and in what timescale? And as somebody with intimate knowledge of PL football finances pointed out last week, if KL is willing to stump up some money for players coming in the maximum she would be allowed to give the club is £40M without breaking the rules.

Would that be enough to enhance our squad and bring it up to a level where we are challenging for a Champions League spot?

The problem with that idea is that it's so totally and utterly sensible - and more than likely true - that any newspaper reporting it wouldn't sell. :-)

The issue here - is sport. As fans we want to get up every morning thinking you can win. Struggle to get to the position we are in to settle for mediocrity - even at top level just doesn't do it for me. Who wants to pay £700 a year to see such limited ambition?

So statement please - which is it to be?
It might be simple, but selling the family silver doesn't mean mid table mediocrity as an ambition would be achieved and the risk is that it would actually mean relegation and not just an occasional flirt with it. I can't see how the board can possible do anything other than continue to invest and try to progress the club on and off the field. The question for Poch and the players is how much money is there to invest in new signing this summer. That is the only measure of intent that really means anything. If there is only money to acquire a couple of squad players rather than a couple of signings who will really help improve the quality then Poch and the players and the fans too will see this as a negative thing and they will be off to a club that can match their ambition. I am sure the current board are aware of the risk that not investing in some genuine quality additions over the summer could spell disaster and prompt our current top players and our manager to look elsewhere to further their careers at a club whose ambition matches their own. Personally, I don't think we have anything to worry about, the board will do the business, Poch and out best players will all stay and we will get at least two top quality signings in. I hope I am right, but you never know.

Rather depends on the quality of the tomato, and specifically the type of cheese, the standards tend to vary according to the location. I would prefer a Cheddar and small chunk pickle sandwich myself, but the bread has to be fresh and for me white.

Absolutely nothing wrong with me or my taste buds. They are very sophisticated. I give as evidence my exquisite taste in football teams.
Pickled herring, though?

Reminds me of my one and only experience of an actual 'smorgasboard'. I was in some little town in Sweden and because it was someone's birthday someone trotted out a table filled with delights such as herring cured in puffin p1ss, raw cabbage and brown cheese. It was literally minging.

Rather depends on the quality of the tomato, and specifically the type of cheese, the standards tend to vary according to the location. I would prefer a Cheddar and small chunk pickle sandwich myself, but the bread has to be fresh and for me white.
The Ocado man's just been - he has all the best stuff.

I had a horrible dream, no nightmare, the other night in that I drove Adam up to sign a contract with Man U... It was so vivid and can still clearly see him signing it but it was really an odd dream as we drove up in an old mini and he signed the contract on a round-a-bout? Probably how they did it back in the day? If it comes true I'll make sure I talk him out of it.

Seriously, which do we think is really happening here:

1. There is no smoke without fire, and Les Reed was telling lies all along, and we're negotiating these deals now

2. Somebody is passing this information to the press in an attempt to destabilize the club/unsettle players so they ask for a transfer, thus making any required bid lower, even though we have no intention of letting them go(and the players also are happy)

3. There is real interest from other clubs, but they are getting the hump as we are refusing to sell, so they are using the press to get back at us

4. Les Reed was telling the utter truth, Luke/ Adam etc love it here and find it funny that the press is creating nonsense, and MoPo is signing a new deal next week, and our transfer targets are fixed and already discussing, including David Villa(and nobody special leaving)

I'd prefer a presentation before the final game if that's OK (or am I being impatient) - MP and Adam on new long term deals please, Markus statue to come. That would be good for starters, then we can actually look forward to the summer. Yay. From MP's latest press conference though I'm assuming the 'no discussions' line is genuine.

I like your optimism by the way - but doing things quietly isn't as easy when your performances have rightly shone a giant spotlight on the club.

I like what Reed has said, but I think he's maybe underestimating the role of agents and advisers these days. This isn't just a case of two guys in a room any more.

And the thing that will really annoy me if this pans out is that the Daily Mail will start their sports pages the following morning with Saints players being lined up for transfers to.........

This is going to be a long, intense and worrying close season - far more so than when we used to hover right up to the last whistle at the brink of relegation. Next season is going to be FANTASTIC and don't let anyone tell you otherwise (especially the Daily Wail)

Have to agree, as any sane person would, that the B team idea is an absolute joke especially as the top clubs would just fill their teams with foreign players and you'd have players like Rodwell and Sinclair on huge wages taking on part-timers and effectively laughing at them.

I think we all could have saved the FA a lot of money. Wenger quoted the obvious yesterday and was pretty much spot on: less competition and more training for younger players is vital.

Combine that with better training for PE teachers and coaches at all levels and maybe even ban parents from school games.

These kids are getting terrible advice from all sides at an early age and often have coaches, teachers or parents who use them to live out their fantasy football management dreams.

And, certainly, the lack of consistent quality between PE teachers when I was growing up (and don't underestimate primary level) was massive - many of them didn't understand the rules let alone anything else.

In contrast, I imagine Suarez spent much of his youth mucking about trying things out and enjoying playing (maybe broken up with the odd nibble here and there).

That said, living somewhere where you can spend the majority of your long evenings and days playing outside can't be underestimated.

Also, a small but important point that no one's mentioned is that no one at Liverpool would ever dream of giving stories to The Sun.

Good point there regarding the Sun, but most of this rubbish is emanating from Neil Ashton, from the Daily Mail. He seems fixated on Saints for some reason, It was him that wrote all those glowing articles regarding Cortese and his methods, so maybe he's being briefed by someone with an axe to grind.

Welcome to Saints to Veho our new Club sponsors. Good to see that the board at Veho are all lifelong Saints supporters so this will be a deal that will have Saints interests at heart. I am sure this deal is more than just a financial arrangement as Veho is at the forefront of Sport Science and Innovation...I can see Saints really trying to push on in this area and still a march on our rivals.

It's no surprise to me at how well Saints have been performing but there is a lot of Science involved in it and this all helps to give the players an edge when it comes to playing to their peak week in week out for a whole season and then pre-season and so forth until their careers come to an end.

Off thread I know but Danny Fox signed a three year deal for Forest to-day.
I know he wasn't everyone's cup of tea , but he played a part in our charge back to the Prem, So good luck Danny, thanks for your efforts, and good luck at Forest.
Just hope he's appreciated more than he was here, because the abuse he got from some so called supporters was, at the best unpleasant, some of it bordering on hysterical bullying, especially some posters on here.
Once again, thank you Danny, you tried your best.....

The Sponsorship is having an instant effect as Saints fans click on to their Web site. I guess I am one of few who actually knew who they were, as I have already used their products!
To be honest I've never heard of them. I'm sure it's a good deal but I was expecting more of a Honda or Redbull type household name following on from last years rumours.

I did didn't I. I'm so sorry. I'm spending so much time now working towards peace for the world that it just slipped my mind. Obviously that objective is impossible on Portsea island. They can never be at peace while we are so many light years ahead of them. And as that situation is permanent it goes without saying that they will NEVER be at peace ever again.

Okay, enough of this love in, just in case we sell one of our stars, have you got any forty million quid players we can sign off you?
Your light years ahead of us but we are still working on the warp drive to fix the gap ! . Thanks for taking interest in the Premier B team injustice and you are aware its only for 10 premier teams and 10 conference teams so who will miss out ?

It's no surprise to me at how well Saints have been performing but there is a lot of Science involved in it and this all helps to give the players an edge when it comes to playing to their peak week in week out for a whole season and then pre-season and so forth until their careers come to an end.
I was hoping for MacDonalds or Burger King with free samples every match.

think I might sign off the internet for the summer and come back on when it's all died down. Bring on next season with ALL our top players still here, more academy talent and a couple of spot on signings that will enable us to disrupt the f*cking carnival procession that the top of the premier league has become.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if goofy was told just give us one more year and we'll let you go. It's the sort of thing Saints might well be tempted to do, given our great progress and the fact that just a little improvement would get us right up there. All the players know that something special is happening and it wouldn't really hurt any of them to make that commitment and give it a go. Liver puddle may well struggle to keep goofy but we all know they would be average without him.

The voice of reason has arrived!

Who knows !
Another factor
When The Fail was supporting Cortese it rarely got cut and pasted by the DE .
Recently it has been more than once.

Hello this is Southampon football club.
It's Brendan Rogers here.I'm just making an enquiry about Adam lallana.
Brendan who? oh you are that guy from Liverpuddle arn't you?
Hi its les Reed.. He's very well thanks and looking forward to being our captain again next year. Please don't call again as we are a bit busy through to the start of next season. Goodbye. Click!
Congratulations, Clever Dick on your ton! Has anyone else scored a century on here before?

All you guys, please continue keeping me cheerful and optimistic.

Saints Board, we are the fans so think of us before the bank, PLEASE!!!!
I'm overwhelmed at the generosity of all Saints fans for honouring me in this way. It's no exageration to say that this has been a lifelong dream which I never really thought would come to fruition. Have to go now as I can't see what I'm typing through the tears of joy. Thanks again.
Yea chuffed.
I only voted 98 times, who were the other two then?

like the diver extraordinaire was at manure a few years back? you could well be right. diverpool should have been punished for the way they ignored the buy-out cause last summer but the prem/fa said they wouldn't do a thing. arsenil had every right to talk to the airbourne one but diverpool stopped it.

I hope we don't offer our players deals like that, its not the right way to go in my opinion. we need to make the players want to stay, and we all know what needs to be done for that to happen.

If Adam is determined to go (which I doubt) then there is no way we should sell before the World Cup because if he plays well his price will double.
So of course Liverpool will want to get him beforehand on the cheap.
Tell them he is going nowhere Les and meet Adam's ambitions by signing four top players ourselves asap, which will settle him down.

Where does that leave MP?
Gully going to :)
Please don't let the good work over the past seasons be destroyed overnight just sell the to super stars we bought over the last two years and fund the wages to keep our top players, the hopefully MoPo will stay too.
