Saints fan takes to the sky to mock Pompey

Basingstoke Gazette: Saints fan takes to the sky to mock Pompey Saints fan takes to the sky to mock Pompey

ONE mischievous Saints fan has taken mocking the club’s south coast rivals to new heights – by flying a banner over Fratton Park during Pompey’s must-win League 2 relegation clash today.

The banner, which read ‘always looking up at us #SFC’, was spotted above Pompey’s ground during the match with Bristol Rovers.

Basingstoke Gazette:

While Saints have been soaring in the Premier League this season, Pompey have been languishing at the wrong end of the Football League.

However, it seems as though a drop to the Conference – and local derbies with Eastleigh – has been averted for this season after the Blues won 3-2 to move seven points above the drop zone.

I've never posted on this site before nor have I had any inclination to but I'm afraid this article compels me to.

I have to say, this is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen at a football match, along with the Moyes one earlier in the season, which was equally pathetic. I'd have been mortified had the situations been reversed and some Portsmouth fan had paid to fly a banner over St Mary's.

It's funny, we're in League 2 and you're in the Premiership as you're so quick to point out, yet despite that you still feel the need to do something like this and then afterwards argue that it's justified rather than being embarrassed as most people would be. Talk about having a massive inferiority complex.

Come on, lighten up fellow Pomponians; I thought it was very funny. As an old Portsmouth fan ( first game 1948), I applaud the sense of humour of a Saints fan. Light banter can be amusing but the hostile comments still posted is very worrying and can lead to unsavoury confrontation. Having said that, it's quite expensive to hire a banner flying aircraft so take comfort in the knowledge that someone has more money than sense. I could think of far more worthwhile causes to spend my money on, couldn't you?

It's not meant to be original comedic material, it's meant to be a joke at our rival's expense which is what the rivalry is about surely?? We are revelling in our current fortune and Pompey's misfortune, just like Portsmouth revelled in our's when we were in the same position (well...not quite as low as them of course). Any Portsmouth fan who thinks they wouldn't do the same is kidding themselves, and as for the Portsmouth fans coming on here declaring 'we've had more points in the Premier League than you in the past', stop reminiscing about your 5 minutes in the sun and get a sense of humour.

Yes, because you never put the boot in when we were bottom of League One. Stop crying about it and accept your team is beyond useless and we would smash you if we played tomorrow.

Hm.. Moral high ground from a fan of a club that stole money from charities. Interesting angle.

As a 48 year old Pompey fan who has family and mates who are Southampton fans, I have never really done the hate thing. Rivalry yes, but hate?.....life's too short for that. i am a serving soldier and it is kind of difficult to hate blokes who you have shared a trench with when sheltering from rockets and mortars! There are a number of fans on both sides who need a bit more perspective on life.
I saw the banner and thought it was very funny...a great example of banter without any nastiness. I know the fans around me also found it amusing. So well done to the Saints fans who organised the flight. All decent fans should be encouraging this sort of good humour and giving a big thumbs down to the neanderthals on both sides. PUP

The difference is flying a aircraft I hope with CAA approval over a highly populated area and must be above 1000 feet it did not look under 1000 feet on the second run.
So did the pilot get CAA approval ?
A few aircraft have come down due to the banner getting caught in the propeller can the echo prove the pilot have not broken any rules doing a dangerous prank over a densely populated area I am sure Portsmouth fans would not come up with a idiotic prank flying over densely populated area of Southampton with 32000 fans in a stadium .

BBC News - Nigel Farage injured in plane crash on election ... news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/ uk_news/england/nort hamptonshire/8664260 .stm‎ 6 May 2010 - It is thought the aircraft came down when a trailing campaign banner became entangled. 'Trapped in wreckage'. Party leader Lord Pearson ... Just think of the stress the poor fellow will suffer as Saints drift towards the bottom of the Prem and Pompey get promoted over the next few seasons! Help him while you can, before he gets suicidal tendencies
And you skunts didn't have any joy or rubbed it in at our brief demise...no? How about the booing at SMS during Ted Bates minutes silence, a chance for you knuckle dragging neanderthals to show 'respect', but you were true to form and acted like the low life degenerates you are. I am loving all the hysterical comments from the 'few' on here, there's more of you posting on here than attend nottarF kraP! You 'few' on here are acting like petulant children, grow up and get a sense of humour, oh and exactly who the fcuk is laughing now??
And Saints fans would honor & respect a minutes silence at Fratton Park? Well Saints fans would (the real ones) But you have to remeber that there are knuckle dragging fools in Southampton also. I'm a Pompey supporter and have been for many years. Never would i disrespect any minutes silence for any football clubs past heroes, including Saints.

Not all the same are we? Personally i didn't see the plane yesterday, my son did, he told me and i laughed as many did. Don't blame you for having a pop at us at the moment. But you know how quick the tables can turn in football. :-)

Could've been quite funny, if they hadn't used Sunderland's hashtag... !
Who organised the banner then
And a few saint fans think it makes them look obsessed with us honesty at last !
I think our Marchwood Pompey shirts stunt is still the the best prank better luck next time ! .

Seen an article on Google and then you're quoting the CAA as if you're knowledgable on the subject. What a joke you are. Seeing that you're such an expert on acronyms I'm sure you'll recognise this one WTFILN.

All this rubbish about inferiority complex, better fans blah blah. There is only one set of fans who cheered their own team for losing. And you think flying a banner is a problem. Jog on skate we will never forget.

Totally respect that PS and if you scroll down a few posts my response to BluesideofHampshire hopefully proves there is no tarring all with the same brush. If my memory is correct we all did respectfully observe a minutes silence for Aaron Flahavan when he tragically lost his life in 2001, he was your 1st choice keeper at the time but it made no difference to us. You are spot on about the tables turning and both our clubs are living proof of that, hopefully we get a few more seasons of higher league banter though ;)
