Luke Shaw hailed an exceptional team performance in Saints’ 4-0 destruction of Newcastle.
In one of the most dominant displays seen this season, Mauricio Pochettino’s men ran riot against the Magpies.
“They are always incredible, every week we play,” said Shaw of his fellow England World Cup hopefuls.
“But it is not just them. We had Calum Chambers come in, who was superb, and James Ward-Prowse in the middle was again superb.
“And Steven Davis doesn’t get a lot of credit, but week in, week out he is probably one of our best players.
“Yeah, you can say those three were the main ones, but I think it was a performance from everyone and it is only going to get better.”
While England manager Roy Hodgson wasn’t at St Mary’s on Saturday, his right-hand-man, Ray Lewington, was sent there to keep an eye on Rodriguez, Lambert, Lallana and Shaw.
His report back will no doubt be a glowing one, but Shaw said the presence of one of the England members of staff is never a distraction.
“I tend to find out after the game, but, even if I do find out, I’m not focused on that,” he said.
“I come and play my normal game and, if I find out that they have been here, if I have played well then it is a good thing.”
