Gareth Rogers has been appointed as Southampton's chief executive, the club have this morning confirmed.

Rogers had been appointed interim CEO after the departure of former chairman Nicola Cortese in January.

Saints chairman Ralph Krueger said: "It gives me great pleasure to announce, on behalf of the Board, that Gareth has been appointed as our new Chief Executive Officer.

“Gareth has done an excellent job leading our operation through a challenging and transitional period over the past two months.

"In that time he has proved himself to be decisive, open to innovation and able to inspire others to share his great values.

“His appointment is another important step forward for our leadership team as we continue to grow this great club.”

Rogers said, in a statement on Saints' official website:

“It is a real privilege and an honour to be confirmed as Chief Executive Officer of Southampton Football Club.

“It is clear from every facet of the club that a real sense of potential exists and we intend to continue to strive in order to reach this.

"Whilst there is significant work ahead of us, I cannot speak highly enough of our fantastic staff who I know, having worked with them for the past three years, are pulling in the same direction to ensure that the Club can continue to better itself."

Congrats Mr R on having "interim" (or intermin if you read the above report) removed from your job desc - it's all good for stability.
I like these phrases - "continue to grow," "sense of potential," and "continue to better itself."
It's all in line with the Liebherr's statement when they originally took over the club that they would take the long-term view and the sustainable route to success. The team at the top looks sound, the team on the pitch next season is going to be better and stronger I reckon.

Big shoes to fill Gareth. Hope your feet are big enough. I wish you every success.

Now that we are structured like an International Company, with an international Board and an International team its time we started to trade like one. i.e. Getting into Champions League. So the Saints faithful will be watching that the excellent work done previously is built upon.

Now that our season is effectively all over bar the shouting I will be very interested to see what progress is made with player purchasing, player retention, manager retention, academy development and club growth. I really dont want ot be waiting for news with one week to go before kick off next season ......

Not much of an ask is it ?

We now have a team in the boardroom as well as on the pitch, good to see Kath involved. Can't see her wanting to lose money or value so the right idea is to continue to grow. All appears happy at the moment, long may it continue. Cortèse who!

Better get a move on then, but I have to agree that MoPo'll probably be off ere long. No bad thing either methinks as he's hardly the most honest of managers. Whenever Saints get beaten it's eith down to poor refereeing, the state of the pitch or some other fatuous reason. Bring back Nige who was so cruelly told to get on his bike by Tricky Nicky after achieving so much for us.

I think (hope) he will stay, especially now that the new board has been put in place and Katharina (note the spelling DE...) has been so positive about not selling the club and taking us forward, like her father would have done!

We now have a team in the boardroom as well as on the pitch, good to see Kath involved. Would be a good time to sell for her personally but she appears to be enjoying it and owning a club must have commercial benefits. Can't see her wanting to lose money or value so the right idea is to continue to grow. All appears happy at the moment, long may it continue. Cortèse who!
