FULHAM 0 SAINTS 1 (Adam Lallana 64)

3:39pm

Morgan Schneiderlin booked for a late tackle on Lewis Holtby (36 mins).

3:38pm

CHANCE (35 mins): Artur Boruc again comes to the rescue for Saints. First, he makes an excellent diving save from a Darren Bent volley. He then denies the striker's angled shot seconds later with his legs.

3:29pm

Victor Wanyama booked for wiping out Scott Parker (26 mins).

3:27pm

CHANCE (24 mins): A flying save from Artur Boruc keeps the scores level. The Saints keeper dives to his right and sticks out an arm to brilliantly palm away Brede Hangeland's header from a Lewis Holtby corner.

3:20pm

CHANCE (17 mins): Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida get in a bit of a muddle trying to deal with a long ball forward. Yoshida ends up clearing it straight to the feet of Scott Parker 40 yards out. The Fulham midfielder drives forward and takes a right-footed shot, but sends the ball skidding a yard or two wide of the far post.

3:11pm

CHANCE (8 mins): Saints have dominated possession in the early stages, but it's the hosts who have the first effort of the game. After Calum Chambers does well to turn a dangerous cross behind for a corner, centre back Dan Burn rises highest to meet Lewis Holtby's delivery, but his header goes a yard over the bar.

2:40pm

The transfer deadline passed without any hint of highly-sought-after defender Luke Shaw leaving the club. There certainly haven't been any signs of the teenager being unhappy at St Mary's, although he was probably a bit disappointed to lose to his manager in this game of two-touch football tennis. Mauricio Pochettino looked delighted, though! (Via Southampton FC's YouTube channel)...

2:33pm

While Dani Osvaldo departed Saints on transfer deadline day, the club were unable to bring anyone in to replace him. Mauricio Pochettino had considered making a signing, but was unable to find anyone available who fit the right profile. Despite the absence of any incomings, the Daily Echo's chief sports writer, Adam Leitch, believes the club can reflect on the January window with a great deal of satisfaction.

2:24pm

Basingstoke Gazette: Dani Osvaldo has been handed a two-week ban

Saints striker Dani Osvaldo departed the club yesterday, joining Juventus on loan until the end of the season. You can read the full story about his exit by clicking here, with the deal potentially set to net Saints a tidy profit on the Italian international.

2:15pm

Basingstoke Gazette: Rene Meulensteen refused to be drawn on the Ravel Morrison situation on Thursday

Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen has written in his programme notes about what he expects from Saints today...

Southampton are having a fantastic season. They sit comfortably in the top half of the table and are unbeaten since the beginning of January. Coming from behind to draw with Arsenal on Tuesday evening will give them more confidence; they have talented young players and play good passing football, so we know exactly what to expect.

Rene Meulensteen

2:07pm

Two changes for Saints this afternoon. Sam Gallagher and Jack Cork drops to the bench. Rickie Lambert and Victor Wanyama come back into the team after injury. Fulham hand debuts to new signings William Kvist and Lewis Holtby.

2:05pm

THE LINE-UPS

FULHAM: Stekelenburg; Riether, Hangeland, Burn, Richardson; Duff, Sidwell, Kvist, Parker, Holtby; Bent.

Subs: Stockdale, Kasami, Kačaniklić, Rodallega, Dempsey, Tankovic, Passley.

SAINTS: Boruc; Chambers, Fonte, Yoshida, Shaw; Wanyama, Schneiderlin; S Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez; Lambert.

Subs: K Davis, Clyne, Hooiveld, Cork, Ward-Prowse, Do Prado, Gallagher.

Referee: Mike Jones.

1:54pm

It has been a difficult season so far for Saints' opponents, Fulham. The Cottagers are second-from-bottom in the Premier League, with the worst goal difference in the division. They dispensed with manager Martin Jol earlier in the campaign and replaced him with current boss, Rene Meulensteen. After being one of the most active clubs in the January window, they are hoping to turn their fortunes around starting today. Fulham's form at home has been poor, though, with three wins, one draw and seven defeats from their 11 league matches here. With Saints expected to be nearly at full strength this afternoon, Mauricio Pochettino's side will be hopeful of taking advantage. Team news is expected in the next ten minutes.

1:50pm

1:49pm

Hello and welcome to this Daily Echo blog, covering this afternoon's Premier League match between Fulham and Saints, at Craven Cottage. After the close of the transfer window last night, the focus is very much back on the pitch for the remaining months of the season. Saints were unable to bring a player in before the deadline, but they did deal with the main issue, which was moving Dani Osvaldo on. Kick-off is at 3pm, so stay with us for build-up, team news and match updates.

Good side out today but JC has been sh@t on again. Can't see how MoPo can justify leaving him out after recent performances. Good job the window is closed. Nice to see Andy (elbows) Carroll has just been sent off for the hoof. As long as they don't have a successful appeal he's out for the game against us.

Do feel bad for Cork, but also glad to have the power of Wanyama back. I don't think Big Vic will play a full 90 to be honest, so Jack might get on at some point anyway. i'm kind of grateful in a way that Wanyama got injured as it got Cork some game time. Of course he'll know why he was picked, but it was still important for him to play some football. If he'd not played at all I think we'd have lost him in January, so let's just be grateful we have three excellent centre midfielders to choose from and not just two.

agree.
But if he could present a bit more of an attacking threat he might have dislodged Steve Davis.
JWP although only a youngster must be considered a regular too and therefore a little unlucky to not start.
Does the personnel suggest more of a 4-1 4-1 formation with Victor keeping the defence tight to allow the two full backs to overlap?
If I was an opposition manager I would be aware that there are attacking options throughout and probably try to counter that by playing two strikers, the option that Mourinho took.
Are Fulham good enough to do this? Only one of their signings available today I think.

Hello everyone. Greetings from the crossroads of Europe.

Cork? Yes, it seems harsh but we're a squad and I never see it that a player's been dropped, rather that MP's doing a bit of rotation. Just glad we have now got such quality. It wasn't so long ago that Cork would have walked into the team in about 4 or 5 different positions.

Anyway, don't fear, after Victor bags a brace and goes off to a standing ovation, Cork will come on and hammer home goal of the season from 45 yards. He's due one!

Here's my thoughts; if Lovren had been playing, I think MoPo would of kept Jack Cork in the side as he definitely didn't deserve to be dropped. But I don't think he's convinced about Yoshida & Fonte as a pairing, so he's gone for Wanyama to stop the attacks before they get that far. Cork is much better distributing the ball, but Wanyama gives us more solidity at the back & I think that's what he's gone for. Very tough luck on Corky, and I hope MoPo has explained it thoroughly (using whatever logic led him to his decision), but it's a squad game. And letting 2 goals back against Sunderland, and letting Arsenal get those two quick goals after the break, shows that the defence does need more protection.

And I agree, Victor probably won't get a full game, so Corky should get on the field at some point.

With our full-backs, though, I'd be tempted to go 4-3-3, with JC, VW & MS in the middle, MS pushing on, and AL, JR RL up top. I'd at least give it a go - but maybe we need VW back to match fitness first?

But I think we'll get a result today.

I know that first of all we have to concentrate on just winning, but I also think we need to be getting some goals to boost our GD.
When teams play MCFC now they do not know where to defend against what players because they know they are capable of scoring from anywhere. That is what we need to aiming for.
Our defence, even without Lovren, is quite good as we have the 4th best record this season so far. We must now press on and as is often said the best form of defence is attack, we do press from Rickie and Jay and we now need to be converting the many chances we make. Sam made a positive start against Arsenal but once again he had the oppurtunity to score and he didn't take it. A goal off someones backside is still a goal.
Having said all that.
1 - 0 is still 3 points!

It WILL be a screamer, but the tabloids will describe it as a CORKER. Not sure how they're going to describe the fourth, when Guly picks the ball up in his own penalty area, dribbles the length of the pitch past all 10 Fulham players and, from the edge of the penalty box, punts the ball about 200 feet into the air and over Stekelenburg into the net; something like Guly, Gladly, Steeply, I guess.

Yep, that Poch is rubbish. Mind you, he might just have been the bloke who at half time - and in his best English - told the midfield to keep attacking the Fulham right side where, defensively, from the first minute, they were so obviously pants.

I guess he got lucky :)

COME ON THE SAINTS !!! OUR AWAY SQUAD WAS ON TOP THROUGHOUT. GET THE REMAINING TICKETS VS WET SPAM NOW !!

GREAT 3-0 WIN. RICKIE got his 100th goal and was key to all 3 goals.

GOOD SUBSTITUTIONS. VW was getting to grip with his game and CORKIE came on to good effect. Chambers was not getting the joy with Richardson and getting Clyne on was the right decision.

Looked like Jrod was misfiring first half and SAM would come on - and then the brilliance of the pace and the GOAL.

RED ARMY 2014.
LONG LIVE OUR GOAL SCORERS ADAM-RICKIE-AND JROD.
WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON - manure and newcastle in our sights !!!
