Another lunchtime kick off for Saints fans travelling to Sunderland

Basingstoke Gazette: Saints in lunchtime action at Sunderland earlier this month Saints in lunchtime action at Sunderland earlier this month

SAINTS fans have been given another early morning trek to the Stadium of Light in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Their club’s last 16 tie at Sunderland has been moved to a 12.45pm kick off time on Saturday, February 15.

That was the same time that the Premier League game between the two clubs at the same venue kicked off earlier this month.

At present, only two of the seven known fifth round ties kick off at the traditional Saturday 3pm time.

Think this will see a smaller travelling fan base - although at £15 each for adults may be worth it!

It's the third visit this season and I think the fans need to be rewarded for going - how about first shout for semi or final tickets if we go all the way?

Real gesture and intent - over and above the season ticket holders of course!!

This is really harsh! Do they not realise that these two teams are at completely different sides of the country.

I know its a real pain for the majority of saints fans, but for me its a bit of relief. Living in the Borders if I missed the 17:30 train from Sunderland to Newcastle, I would have missed my last rail link bus from Berwick, requiring a 100 mile detour via Edinburgh.

I know the money from television is a help to the lower league clubs, but i think in time it will kill off some of the premiership sides. One that springs to mind is that lot down the M27. Lets face it is one player , reportedly to be signing a contract worth £300 000 per week ??, all brought about by tv money.
Soon (and i am not having a dig ) the only people going to watch our games in the top flight will be people like our friend SEEDHOUSE and his guests.
English football always use too kick off SAT at 3.00 P M. Home one week, away the next. You now buy a season ticket not knowing if you will be able to attend all the games!!. The F A have sold the clubs to the world of television and we fans must pay the costs.

Sadly, it's not cosy on the Sunday. We've Bayern Munich at home 72 hours later, so we've been shafted also.

Just did a quick National Rail search for trains and just found out how difficult it is to get to Sunderland. Let alone get there for a 12.45 kick off.

All indications are, if going by train, that you will need to go at least part of the way Friday night, and stopover.
Same if you use Flybe, but price about the same.

Would be good if the club laid on heavily subsidised, or free, transport, for this one. Especially now it can be viewed from the armchair or local pub.

Sadly it's not that cosy at 4pm on Sunday for Arsenal. We've Bayern Munich in Champions League 72 hours later, so would have preferred your slot. The bottom line is, the money people don't care about us, we are seen as loyal, cr@p upon us all you want, we'll still go. It's all about money, not us.

Saturday 12:45 in Sunderland, 3rd time this season is a poor shout and total disregard for supporters. Likewise 4pm Sunday shows they don't care for English teams in Europe (even though we've little chance of getting a result anyway with it being 12:45 Saturday!)

Come and join us for a few post match beers in Edinburger then :0)

These days I live just north of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, which means it's a five hour trek down to Sunderland... but we are due to give them a Norge style hell of a beating, so I'll be doing my bit. Have warned Mrs Monster that I won't be sober by the time I get back

Its a good stop over, with £15-£20 already in your pocket for accommodation etc. Enjoy.
If Kelv can give us the same rally cry he did before he knew we were going back to his old stomping ground, then we're on.
Tickets please.
