Wang Jianlin denies takeover bid with Nicola Cortese for Southampton FC

Basingstoke Gazette: Wang Jianlin Wang Jianlin

CHINA’S richest man has denied making a move to take over at Saints.

Wang Jianlin, the owner of Wanda Group, today rubbished speculation in English national newspapers over the weekend that he was launching a £175m takeover bid at St Mary’s.

In a statement his company, the Dalian Wanda Group, said: "Recently it was brought to Dalian Wanda Group's attention by a Sunday Mirror's report about Wanda’s acquisition of Southampton Football Club.

"We hereby clarify that: No individual from Wanda Group has ever been in contact with Southampton Football Club, nor has any individual or third party organization been appointed on behalf of the Wanda Group to engage in contact with Southampton regarding any matters related to the acquisition of Southampton football club.

"The Sunday Mirror's report is purely imaginary and completely inconsistent with the actual facts."

As reported by the Daily Echo, there are currently no takeover talks underway at Saints and none are expected in the near future.

This is the second time Wanda has denied a takeover of a football club in the last few months.

Last November, they denied reports they were keen to take over at Italian giants Roma.

Founded in 1988, the Dalian Wanda Group is a Chinese conglomerate company active in real estate, tourism, hotels and entertainment.

Since 2011, they have been a sponsor of the Chinese Football Association Super League.

Strictly speaking, they have only confirmed that no approach has started.

They are yet to deny any takeover bid being considered. That is still ambiguous based on the quotes.

Any chance we can report 100% factually? Leave the fiction to The Mirror.

So much speculation that Katharina Liebherr wants to sell the club, has no interest in football, and wants to get rid of us asap! Chinese consortiums, Nicola returning......
Looking at the facts that we do know so far is that she didn't want NC to leave and now that he has she has stated that she wants to appoint a new CEO asap, in order to stabilise the club. Has spoken briefly to MP to date, with further discussions set for today including meeting the staff.
Could it be that she actually has no intention to sell as she doesn't want to, or need to?
If she didn't want Nicola to leave it would suggest she was happy with the way the club was being run and progressing within the time frame originally agreed with her father and NC.
Maybe now we know the Chinese speculation was just a rumour, perhaps we all need to take a deep breath and see what transpires in the next week or two. Who's to say we might be pleasantly surprised yet...

Boruc has to play he's looking a bit rusty and Chambers instead of Clyne. I think the Beast will get a run out if he's fit - its n opportunity to ease himself back into it.

I think this is all a smokescreen . He's currently mulling over the purchase of one of two clubs and is trying to work out which is the better value. It's either Saints for £175 million or Poopey for 175 pence. Currently Saints are well ahead in the argument.
Slight exaggeration there, 175 pence for poopey?????
Somebody has pointed out to him that he could possibly double his money over a ten year period. He said it would be very difficult to do as he can't see Poopey ever being worth as much as £3-50p
I can see the error in the financial forecast given to him,it would be the equivalent to the chance of myself flying around the Moon backwards,in a helicopter, naked, wit

Read the statement again, guys, especially the bit that reads "..any matters related to the acquisition of Southampton football club".

Hold on. I thought there was no acquisition, yet they refer to it directly in the press release. How can there be related matters if a takeover isn't on the cards?
Don't read too much into the translation. The statement was made in Chinese.
