Mauricio Pochettino admitted his disappointment that Saints only got a point out of a game they dominated at Sunderland.

The Saints boss was delighted that his players bounced back from a tough week that has seen boardroom upheaval at the club with a fine performance at the Stadium of Light.

But he was frustrated that the game ended in a 2-2 draw when it might have been a very handsome Saints win.

He said: “I am quite disappointed with that point. I think we deserved to win the match.

“In the end we leave with one point and two injuries and we hope these injuries are not as bad as they seemed.”

Pochettino, who said he will try and meet Katharina Liebherr in the coming days, continued: “I am very happy with the performance. They showed they are great professionals and they had the right attitude.

“I want to congratulate them as I have done in the past.

“I think all Southampton supporters should be very proud of their team because they played very well in light of what happened this week.”

I don't blame our players for dropping points. To me it is a glaring error on management not to address our lack of scoring and bring someone in.

The fact is we should have won this one. Rickie missed a great chance and with our total domination I think we may have gone on to give them a real hammering. Great game by Corky but I thought Davis, Adam and SRL had off days. And both their goals came from attacks down the right. If Fox had been our LB today he'd have been slated. Overall I suppose an away draw in the Prem is not too bad. Hope the injuries aren't too bad, especially Dejan.

This is an accurate post of the game! The pundits on BT sport were critical of Shaw who today IMO showed that a £30 million price tag is ridiculous. He was poor in respect of both goals and you're right if that had been Fox we wouldn't hear the end of it! Why doesn't MP make changes earlier?

It's easy to suggest that others spend their money. At this stage of the season, it seems unlikely that we will get into Europe however much we spend, and equally unlikely that we will relegated even if we bring no one in. Perhaps it's better to wait till summer.

Once again we failed to win a game we should have. But well done the team for a very good performance, especially after the events of this last week.

The 2 injuries are worrying. Not at all clear how Lovren sustained his injury. The tackle on Ramirez by Brown was arguably a fair one because he got a foot on the ball before following through on Ramirez. On the other hand it was a reckless tackle from behind which not surprisingly harmed he Saints player. Brown and O'Shea are brutes and get away with far too much. How did the ref not see the rugby tackle on a Saints forward from a corner in the first half?

Cork deserved MOTM as chosen by Michael Owen on BT Sport TV.

Totally agree shaw looked dreadful at times and both goals came from the right £30m price tag on that performance think we should take it now.

Well, we will need to get the cheque book out now, Gaston's looked really bad, ankle ligaments (thanks Brown you donkey) Dejan's looks like it was self inflicted and didn't look that bad on the box but he was stretchered off with oxygen! The mighty boruc was at fault for their equaliser and pushed it into the net instead of over for a corner and Shaw must take some of the blame because for both goals he failed to close Johnson down. What the hell is going on with Lambert, his form has been in free fall since his last England call up and he was just a passenger again. Finally Jay rod please take a touch, several times today you had plenty of time and space but you just keep snatching at chances when we should have been 4 up at half time with a bit more composure. Anyway kind of happy with a point but what a wasted opportunity today after that first half performance, but still struggle sometimes to understand MoPo's substitutions.

Absolutely cracking 1st half, we were over them like sh1t to a blanket. Totally dominated midfield and kept them pegged back. Only disappointment was we should have gone in 4/5-0 up with the game out of site. This was probably your down fall and we looked jaded and without much energy 2nd half. Sunderland bullied us but to their credit kept pushing the ball down our throats and got their equaliser. The way we play is open and attacking, if all players are not fully committed it can break down and long ball merchants find it easy to pick us off. Saying that some of our football 1st half was breath taking with corky pulling the strings lovely. Away draw not a bad result.

lots of comments in the sunderland echo saying that is the worst first half performance in living memory ( some mention 50 years).
maybe they mean that was the best display from an away team in living memory.
the nucleus for a great team is surely evolving.
having support the saints on and off the terraces for 50 years
I have never had a negative thought about the team....maybe anger sometimes...but never negative....
Southampton fc will always be southampton fc......COYR's

completely agree with you on the shaw's price tag. talented player but no way did he look like a 30 million pound player yesterday. Johnson had him in his pocked in the 2nd half.
