THEO WALCOTT

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

First published in Sport

ONE former Saint could take advantage of another’s injury nightmare when he makes his long-awaited return tomorrow.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to full training at Arsenal on Monday, the same day that team-mate Theo Walcott was ruled out of the rest of the season, and the World Cup, with a knee ligament problem.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not played since suffering a knee injury on the opening day of the season against Aston Villa.

The Portsmouth-born winger, who like Walcott made his Saints debut aged just 16, is targeting a first-team comeback later this month.

He could even play some part of Arsenal’s Premier League U21 game against Fulham tomorrow.

The 20-year-old’s return is very timely following Walcott’s agony.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is seen by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as a potential replacement to Walcott in right midfield.

As for England, Walcott’s World Cup agony does not really affect the chances of Saints ace Adam Lallana.

Spurs’ Andros Townsend impressed in the October World Cup qualifying games when Walcott was out with another injury.

Lallana was preferred on the opposite left flank when he played against Chile and Germany the following month.

Oxford dictionary's description of a back stabber says "see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain". I don't think he should go based on the fact that he is another sick-note, we need reliabillity for at least 4 matches out there
