A FOOTBALL-themed charity has achieved its initial target of raising £10,000 to help a sick single mum from Tadley.

Emma Postance, 42, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in December last year when a routine scan showed something on her brain.

Emma, mother to one-year-old Alice, has been told she may only have two years left to live.

Football-themed charity Big Match Co has now raised nearly £10,000 in the space of a few weeks to help Emma.

Neil Humphries, founder of the Big Match Co, and his team have been overwhelmed by donations during a cost-of-living crisis.

Neil set up the fund when he heard that Emma had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

As the fundraiser nears the £10,000 mark, Neil has set a new marker of £15,000.

He said: “We are trying to assist her to raise funds to have specialist treatment to prolong her life and spend more time with Alice.

“Having Emma fund her treatment is something we cannot understand why that is happening. If it is available, it should be provided free of charge.

“But the reality is, it is not. She needs help and we will try and support her as much as we can.”

It is all too real to Neil as his father died from the disease in 2012 and he set up the charity in his memory.

Since then The Big Match has raised millions of pounds by supporting local and national clauses.

It also provides defibrillators across the community, most recently after a match at Tadley Cavella FC where a visiting player collapsed on the pitch.

The highlight of the fundraising for Emma is a special charity match at a luxury venue.

Southampton’s St Mary's Stadium with its Premier League facilities will host the game during half term on June 2 at 12noon.

Neil said: “We have four teams playing two games. They are made up of local and national players.

“All have paid to play and are committed to raising money for Emma.

“There are no team names, just one big team of amazing individuals looking to help a person in by playing the game they love."

Neil added: “Tickets are available at £10 for spectators to come along, support or maybe just heckle some of Tadley’s finest footballers.
