A BASINGSTOKE hospice received a grant worth £5,000 from a charity that helped refurbish parts of its existing flooring.

St Michael's Hospice is celebrating after receiving funding from The Screwfix Foundation, the charity which supports not-for-profit organisations in need across the UK to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities.

Patient and family support lead at St Michael’s Hospice, Christine Bagan said: “The hospice user group, when visiting the inpatient unit post-refurbishment, commented how much brighter, larger and more modern it appeared. The new flooring has transformed the corridors, which are now bright, modern and visibly clean without feeling too clinical.

“This has enabled the inpatient unit to retain its feeling of comfort for our patients and their families.”

The Screwfix Foundation manager Claire Flory said: “What St Michael’s Hospice does is vital for the local community. The much-needed funding used to renovate the flooring will be key in supporting the charity’s users. We are delighted to see that our donation has gone towards such an important project, for the benefit of those in need."

St Michael’s Hospice enables anyone faced with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers, to attain the highest possible quality of life by providing a choice of specialist care and support, and this includes having friendly and welcoming spaces.

Set up in 2013 after recognising the need to give back, The Screwfix Foundation has donated over £11m for good causes and helped over 2,400 local registered charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK.
