A NURSERY in Basingstoke has been judged as good in their latest report with children having “many opportunities to learn” creating a “positive experience”.

Members of staff at Cornerstone Day Nursery on Priestley Road have been praised for having a ‘strong partnership’ with parents and giving children many opportunities to develop their creativity.

Nursery manager Lauren Geeson was pleased with the latest report.

She said: “I am over the moon with the result, the team have worked incredibly hard through the pandemic and it's great to see them get the recognition they deserve.”

The latest Ofsted inspection, which was carried out in March identified several key strengths within the nursery, including children spending a lot of time in the large outdoor area, children having many opportunities to learn as a group, staff supporting children's communication and language skills and the fact that children develop their creativity.

As previously reported the school recently celebrated its 20th Birthday and the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane visited to join in celebrations with staff and children.

The report also noted that children have "a lot of fun" when attending the nursery and that they "play cooperatively".

The nursery was previously rated as requires improvement in February 2020 but this year's report commends staff for their improvement since then.

It states: “Managers have worked hard to address the actions and recommendations from the previous inspection.

“They have implemented a range of initiatives to raise the level of teaching. Managers encourage staff to undertake training to learn more about delivering a varied curriculum. For example, following a training day, they have implemented a new 'curiosity approach' to children's learning. Children now use more natural and recycled resources. Staff explain that this encourages more imaginative play and say that the children love real-life items to explore, including toasters, vegetables and a microwave.”

Cornerstone Day Nursery opened in 2002 and re-registered under new ownership in 2004. The nursery employs 40 members of staff and  currently provides funded early education for two, three, and four-year-old children.
