CHILDREN from a Basingstoke school learned about the role of the borough’s mayor and mayoress during a recent visit.
Eleven children from Merton Infant School visited Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council chambers on Monday, January 8.
During the trip, the youngsters met the Mayor of Basingstoke Cllr David Leeks and mayoress Amanda.

A school spokesperson said: “The children are part of the School Council and enjoyed learning all about the role of the mayor and mayoress and the charities they support.
“The children were very inquisitive and asked some very insightful questions.
“The mayor and mayoress complimented their excellent behaviour.”
