A BASINGSTOKE drug driver has been banned from taking to the roads and fined hundreds of pounds.

On Saturday, September 23, last year, Stephen Brain, of Quilter Road, drove a BMW in Winchester Road, Basingstoke. 

It was found that the grooves of the tread pattern of a tyre fitted to the rear nearside wheel of the vehicle Brain was driving was not in the legal limit. 

On the same date, in the same vehicle, Brain was also caught speeding exceeding 40mph. The speed recorded by a handheld laser was 51mph.

He also had not less than 3.7ug/L of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood - the legal limit is 2ug/L.

During a hearing held at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 16, the 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the driving offences.

Magistrates banned him from taking to the roads for 16 months and ordered fines of £1,099 to be paid.

Brian must also pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £440.
