RESIDENTS of Basingstoke can once again nominate someone they think deserves recognition to win a special award.

The Rotary Club of Basingstoke's President's Recognition Award is designed to show appreciation to members of the community who have gone over and beyond in their chosen line of duty, to make an impact on the lives of people in the town.

The club is inviting nominations for the next series of award ceremonies planned for the next few months, designed to recognise, celebrate and identify the good causes and selfless actions of individuals in Basingstoke.

Previous winners include Emily Wigley, who rescued an elderly man from a burning building earlier this year, and Dan Brownlie, manager of the treble-winning Basingstoke Town FC.

The Rotary Club of Basingstoke will be holding its annual business partners dinner on Thursday, November 9.

President Tunde Adelakun said: "It will be a big one and we will have quite the heavyweights of the Basingstoke business community in attendance.

"We will also be using the occasion to make our next presentation to a worthy winner of our President’s Recognition Award.

"So it’s that time again to get your nominations in. Who would you like to see getting rewarded and celebrated for selfless service to the community?"

Speaking about the award previously, Tunde said: "We have so many unsung heroes in Basingstoke - social workers, in the health service, youth charities, sports coaches and mentors - who do not have to be who they are, but decide to be because they want to make a difference.

"And I am determined to unearth these people and celebrate them publicly. I am glad and grateful that members of my club accepted and share my vision."
