Oakley bowling club’s Sue Dixon and Janie Vickers beat an Alton Social duo captained by Pru Pointer to reach the semi-final of the County Golden Girls competition, writes Spencer Kerley.

They will take on the Bournemouth champions on their march to the final.

Oakley clubmates Malcolm Grime and Bob Goodyear also reached the quarter-final in the equivalent men’s event.

They too will be hoping for a victory over Alton Social to take them into the semi-final.

In the Basingstoke and district triples league Division 1 Kingsclere suffered a shock defeat against Oakley as they went down 4-1.

This was their first defeat in two years with Oakley taking over leadership of the division. However, the lead is narrow and Kingsclere have a game in hand.  

In division 2 Basingstoke Town remain undefeated, but Howard Park could benefit if Town were to slip up in their remaining games.

In the Whitchurch mixed league division 1 Basingstoke Town Spades, the winners in 2021 continue to make the running, although Andover Lions and Old Basing Cavaliers remain in contention.

Kingsclere Partridges reign supreme in division 2 while Andover Eagles are going to need a late surge to avoid relegation.

In Division 3 Old Basing Roundheads remain unbeaten and their narrow victory against Oakley Kites puts the Kites in danger of relegation back to division 4, where Aldermaston Elms, despite a 4-1 defeat to Marnell Greens, are hot favourites for promotion.

Whitchurch league competitions are reaching the later stages with Dave Goddard of Basingstoke Town joining three players from Alton Social in the semi-finals of the Open Singles. He will take on Home Counties champion Leo May of Alton Social.  

In the pairs Dave Simmons and James Durrant of Howard Park also take on Alton Social, while Gerald Norris and Graham Tompkins of Oakley have already qualified for the final.
