MORE than 200 hundred students have attended a STEM event in Hampshire to inspire new career paths.
On Wednesday, June 28 EBP South launched their new Inspiring STEM event at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.
Over 250 students from across Hampshire, which was held in partnership with Southampton City Council, attended to take part in interactive STEM activities designed to inspire them about STEM career paths.
The event which was sponsored by Fareham College, Lenovo, DP World, AWE, Lockheed Martin, Astute Technical Recruitment, Balfour Beatty, NATS and the University of Winchester and supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council featured activities such as investigating the properties of carbon dioxide, programming robot buggies and building bridges.

Kate Henty, head of science at Dove House Academy said: "It was an inspiring and hugely engaging event which was enjoyable and accessible for all. Our pupils had a fantastic day and were able to ask approximately one thousand questions!”
Twenty organisations provided activities at the event which allowed businesses to connect with the future workforce, breaking down STEM job role stereotypes and adding social value.
The event also featured 22 STEM Ambassadors who engaged with students throughout the day, providing different insights and information about STEM careers.

Ambassador Fraser Dawson from South Western Railway added: "The event provided a fantastic opportunity for students to get an insight into the array of STEM careers and to understand alternative ways to pursue successful jobs without going to university.”
Employment and skills plan coordinator at Southampton City Council, David Swinton, said: “Inspiring STEM, a day of forward-thinking employers engaging with motivated future talent in the heart of Southampton docks.
"This is the reason Southampton City Council chose to partner once again with EBP South for this interactive STEM careers event.”
