SOME of the traffic lights on a major roundabout in Basingstoke have stopped working.

The lights around half of Thornycroft Roundabout were not working on the morning of Wednesday, April 26, causing a lot of confusion among commuters.

The lights are working on the approach from Ringway West and B3400, although none are working on the other side of the roundabout. The arms affected are the A340 past Milestones Museum and the A3010, also known as Churchill Way West.

Drivers are urged to proceed to the roundabout with caution while the lights are not working.

A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said: "Highway engineers have assessed the situation and advised that the cause was due to an SSE power outage relating to their planned works. Power is expected to be restored within the hour."
