Overton's Under 15 girls team are celebrating after a marvellous season, in which they won all their league games and secured promotion.

Overton Under 15 girls, whose squad consists of 17 girls, have played four seasons of league football together, with Ian Dayman as their coach.

This season the team won Division Three of the Hampshire Girls' Youth League, having played and won all 12 of their league games.

Ian said: "This remarkable season is the result of years of hard work, determination, and resilience from the girls."

It wasn't until Overton Youth Football Club founded a Wildcats centre in Overton in 2018 that many of the team, already nine or 10 years old, discovered the game. The under 15's were the first girls' team formed from the Wildcats centre, encouraging other young girls in the village and surrounding area to get involved in the sport.

The coaching team are FA qualified and have worked with Hampshire FA coaches in optimising their sessions and techniques.

Ian said: "The focus is always on gradual improvement but always keeping it fun and positive.

"The goal is to keep the girls playing football for as long as they want, with the ambition that Overton will form a women’s team, and some of these girls will be in it!"

Ian added: "We are looking forward to promotion and feel confident we can do well in a higher division. We have entered a European tournament in May, in Holland. The girls will get the chance to play teams from all over Europe which will be an amazing experience for them and deserved after such a good season at home!"
