A BASINGSTOKE housing association has pledged to continue supporting the town’s foodbank through an extended lease.

With temperatures falling and the cost-of-living crisis continuing, Vivid Plus has announced that it is continuing its support of Basingstoke Foodbank by extending its lease for a further five years.

The news comes following the announcement that record numbers of people are using the foodbank, with demand rising by a 82 per cent.

Chair of trustees at Basingstoke Foodbank Phil Thomas said: “The generous leasing subsidy from Vivid Plus is a massive help to Basingstoke Foodbank.

“The money it will save the foodbank can be invested in further improving the services we offer to some of the most vulnerable residents in the town.”

The foodbank offers an important service to the people of Basingstoke, offering emergency food and essentials to those in need without judgement.

The extended lease will ensure that the foodbank will have a continued base to work from, allowing members of the public who need aid to receive help.

Head of communities, standards and partnerships at Vivid Plus Derek Streek said: “We are pleased to be able to continue our relationship with Basingstoke Foodbank and know how vital the work they do is.”
