A NEW brewery and taproom has opened its doors on a farm in Dummer.

Located at Dummer Down Farm, the Dummer Down Brewery opened on October 28, serving a range of drinks to punters on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Dummer Down Farm owner Andrew Ferguson said that he was inspired to open the brewery after experiencing some success selling other locally crafted beers.

He explained: “We had an old shed that we used to do monthly events, operating monthly events where there was a local guy brewing in his garage and we were selling his beer.

“And it was just really well supported, and it was pre-Covid, absolutely packed and filled with local villagers and everyone getting together and talking with each other, it was a really good atmosphere.

“And that was literally an old shed that we’d built in our own taproom, and then one thing led to another, and we are putting in a planning application, we got a rural development grant, and then knocked down the old shed.”

Andrew said that he hopes to start hosting events at the taproom in the future.

“We do quite a few events on the farm already, weddings and festivals, so we’d like to build a mobile bar and go out to support the events we already have on the farm.

“We have food trucks; we had a really good night last Friday, we had a really nice burger van come, and that was really well supported.

“So we want to get food trucks, pizza trucks, that kind of thing, do some live music, just support local musicians, those kinds of things.”

Andrew’s wife Florence said: “He wanted to set this up for the community on the farm and the local community.

“It’s such a nice thing that every Friday so many people who are already on the farm come for a drink.”
