Cllr Paul Harvey, the ward councillor for the area, said: “The police are aware and residents alerted me to the incident on social media. We just need to wait and see and give the police space to do their job.

Cllr Harvey said he was shocked to hear about what happened and said he has not heard of any similar incidents in the area.

He commended police officers for responding quickly to the incident.

One resident who lives nearby to the pub said she was shocked to hear about what happened, although said ‘fights are not uncommon in the area’.

The resident who did not wish to be named, said she heard noises but thought it was “another fight” and was quite shocked to read about the seriousness of the incident on social media.

She said she rushed down to see what was happening but couldn’t see anything when she got to the front door.
