PETER ANDRE may have got many a female fan hot under the collar during his pop heyday but he seems to have caused quite a stir on the Mediterranean island of Malta.
The 39-year-old Mysterious Girl singer was picked by Valetta city councillors to be their cultural ambassador - despite having no links to the country.
However, not everyone is happy that Peter has been picked as a cultural icon. More than 1,000 locals have signed a petition to city mayor Alexiei Dingli, demanding he revokes the appointment.
Mr Dingli said he wanted a celebrity to promote the capital and revealed that pop star Peter has promised to visit “in the summer”.
