BASINGSTOKE Town's chances of avoiding relegation from the National League South suffered a major set back last night, as they lost 2-1 at relegation rivals Weston-super-Mare.

Dragons manager Terry Brown made three changes to the side which lost at home to Concord Rangers on Saturday, as Dan Lincoln, Manny Williams and Nathan Smart all returned in place of Dan Lincoln, Chris Flood and Lloyd Macklin.

The first 45 minutes in Somerset failed to split the sides, as they went in with the score at 0-0 at the break.

The home side then opened the scoring as on the hour mark thanks to a nice strike from Dayle Grubb.

The Dragons roared back and from Nathan Smart's cross Louie Soares was able to level things.

The visitors then went looking for the winner, but it was the Seagulls who got it, as Grubb netted his second, this time from 25 yards out which flew into the top corner.

After this the visitors tried to get an equaliser, but it was all in vain as the home side won.

The victory moved Weston out of the relegation zone and leaves Town firmly routed at the bottom of National League South, 11 points from safety and now with only five games remaining.

They have the chance for quick revenge on Saturday, when the Somerset side travel to the Camrose.
