NOTHING less than six points will really do for Basingstoke Town over the Christmas break as they look to get back on the tails of their relegation rivals n the National League South.

The Dragons travel to high flying Sutton United on Boxing Day (3pm), before entertaining Hayes and Yeading on Monday (3pm).

Town boss Michael Gilkes felt his side deserved to win last Saturday as they drew 2-2 with St Albans.

Gilkes said : “Their goalkeeper was their man of the match as we had enough chances to win the game."

Rowan Vine scored on his debut and the Basingstoke-born striker was a non contract player at Gosport and played in the Championship with Birmingham City and QPR.

Gilkes said: “Rowan rang us up and I think he is a great addition to the squad and adds to the competition for places. He is bit rusty at the moment, but once match fit he will do well for us.”

Young striker George Hallahan has been loaned out to Slough Town and he scored twice on his debut for the Southern League Premier Division side as they drew 3-3 with leaders Poole.

Gilkes said: “ It is good for him to go to Slough to get to play some football.”

The return from injury of Jamie Brown will add steel to the midfield and Gilkes is also expecting fellow midfielder Glen Southam to be fit for the trip to Sutton.

Talking about the trip Gilkes said: “We are used to playing on a 3G pitch as we train on it every week. so I think we can do well there."
