BASINGSTOKE Town will look to maintain their current winning run as they head to Maidenhead United on Saturday (3pm) in the National League South.

The Dragons have hit three goals in their last two games as Torquay were beaten in the FA Cup and then third placed Whitehawk, lost in a league game at the Camrose on Tuesday night.

This will boost the confidence of a side, who in fact have only lost once in their last eight outings for what is a very tough test at the weekend.

The Magpies are flying high at the moment in fourth place in the table.

The Berkshire side have won their last five with clean sheets in their last four games.

They also beat a National League side in the FA Cup last weekend, thanks to a 3-0 victory over Woking.

Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow is ready for stiff test for his side and said: “They are very different to the last two teams we have played.

“They play very direct and have two very good strikers which we are going to have to stop.”

Bristow is expecting to have a full squad to pick from for their trip to Maidenhead, as no players picked up any injuries in Tuesday night’s win over Whitehawk.

The only player currently sidelined is midfielder Jamie Brown.

Last Saturday, Basingstoke gave a debut to Glen Southam and the former Eastleigh skipper has certainly slotted in well to the Dragons line-up.

Bristow is delighted with the latest addition to his squad and said: “Glen (Southam) gives us another experienced head in midfield.

“I think his game management is a real plus for us and of course we have won both games since he has arrived.”

With Southam now playing the holding role in midfield, it has allowed former Reading star James Harper some more freedom and he has looked very good in the last two games.

Bristow added: “I certainly think it has taken a bit of the pressure off Harps (James Harper) and it was good to see both of them closing down players late on in the game against Whitehawk.”

The game against Maidenhead, will be Town’s last outing before their FA Cup first round tie at Cambridge United.
