BASINGSTOKE Town have announced the signing of former Havant and Waterlooville, Woking and Sutton United goalkeeper Aaron Howe.

The 27-year-old is no stranger to the club. Not only has he faced Town on numerous occasions, but he is the son of long-serving Basingstoke manager Ernie Howe.

Aaron said: “I spent my childhood on the pitch and around the club growing up.

“I’m looking forward to throwing myself into the season, and working hard. The team did great last season and I want to help the team do one better and win the league”.

Howe worked his way through the goalkeeping ranks at Woking before joining Carshalton Athletic in 2007. He went on to play for Hayes and Yeading United and Havant and Waterlooville before returning to Woking, where he spent four seasons as first choice goalkeeper, winning the Vanarama Conference South title in 2011-12.

He left Kingfield last December and spent the second half of last season at Sutton United.

Howe will replace Town Player of the Season Stuart Moore between the sticks, the talented youngster having returned to parent club Reading after a hugely successful loan spell.

Basingstoke manager Jason Bristow has been in talks with Howe about moving to the Camrose for some time and is delighted to have sealed the deal.

Bristow said: “Aaron will be a great asset to the squad not only is he a great keeper, but he has previously won the league and knows what it takes.”
