BASINGSTOKE Town have been fined £500 by the Football Conference after it emerged that they had inadvertently fielded an ineligible player during their game against Havant and Waterlooville in September.
The offence relates to striker Chris Flood, who signed a permanent deal two days before the game, having previously played for the club on a month-to-month contract.
The Football Conference requires a new registration form when this change is made, but Town failed to provide one before the trip to Havant, making Flood an unregistered, and therefore ineligible, player.
The game was lost 2-0, so the club will not have any points deducted. However, they will have to pay the minimum fine of £500, having decided not to appeal against the decision.
