THE first volleys of the Basingstoke and District Tennis League summer season started with Kingsclere A and Old Basing A making a good start in Men's Division One.

Both opened with two wins apiece as Kingsclere beat Beechdown A 5-3, with a maximum from Daniel Cole and Steve Mills, and then enjoyed an 8-0 win at Waverley A.

The Old Basing team of Jamie Thomas and James Chamberlin and Phil Dixon and Rob Still also beat Waverley 8-0 and then won 5-3 against RSF A.

Defending champions Andover A beat Totally Tennis A 8-0, while Overton A had a good draw at Goodworth Clatford A thanks to Liam Hignett and Keiran Hughes winning all their sets for the visitors.

In Division Two, RSF B won their first match 7-1 at Old Basing B, while Andover B and Aldermaston A started with 5-3 successes against Oakley A and Preston Candover respectively. Honours were shared in the Winchester A v Old Basing B clash.

Three teams in Division Three, BDH, Overton B and Hampshire Court A, have all started with two wins. BDH beat Mortimer A 6-2 with David Burrell and Andy Wallace getting a maximum and they then had a comfortable 8-0 win at Hampshire Court B.

Overton B also claimed an 8-0 result against Hampshire Court B and a 5-3 win at Waverley B.

Hampshire Court A won 6-2 at Odiham A and by the same score at Mortimer A.

A maximum from Tim Clist and Chris Clinch gave Waverley B a 6-2 a win at Mortimer B, while Odiham A drew with Kingsclere B and Mortimer A beat their B team 5-3.

Goodworth Clatford B head Division Four after two wins. They beat Oakley B 5-3 and Winchester B 7-1 thanks to a maximum from Steve Beasant/Mark Lynch.

The Odiham B team of Roger Searle/Ian Allen and Roger Barnacle and Jeremy Hillage won 8-0 at Sherborne. Winchester B chalked up their first win, 5-3 against Beechdown C thanks to Peter Birnie and Adam Espir winning all their sets.

A maximum from Chris Apsey and Nigel Bailey gave Aldermaston B a draw with Totally Tennis C.
