TOTALLY Tennis performance player and top seed Liam Hignett won the 16-and-under boys singles Grade 4 Thornden Junior Open at Chandler’s Ford.
After a bye in the first round, Hignett beat Peter Borodicz 4-0, 4-0 in the quarter-finals, before seeing off third seed Max Holland 6-2, 6-0 in the last four.
He then beat unseeded William Thompson in the final, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Another performance player, Harry Feast, won the Grade 4 Thornden 12-and-under boys title.
Feast defeated Lewis Maftah 4-1, 4-0 in the quarter-finals and Billy Stacey 6-2, 6-2 in the last four.
In the final, he beat Nishant Talpallikar 6-2, 7-6.
Feast also competed in the 16-and-under doubles with partner Ollie Brown.
They beat Talpallikar/ James Ardley 4-2, 2-4, 10-5 in their first match, but were unable to progess beyond the semi-finals, losing 4-0, 4-1 to Luke Chappell/ Harry Pickard.
Coach Ben Jubin said: “Harry (Feast) did really well to win a Grade 4 event. It should be a real confidence boost for him.”
Mini performance player and Sherfield School tennis scholar Tillie Reid won the 10-and-under girls Thornden Grade 4 Tournament, which was held in Southampton.
She beat Emma Applebee 4-1 in the quarter-finals and followed this up with a 4-2 victory over Grace Williams in the last four.
After losing the first set in the final, Reid won a tie-break against Martyna Clubiuck to take the title, winning 4-5, 4-2, 10-6.
