YOUNG tennis ace Esther Adeshina won the 12-and-under Girls Winter National Tour Grade 2 event at the University of Bath Sports Village.
The event was the first of the national tour series of the winter season and consisted of the top 32 junior players from right across the country.
The Basingstoke player was seeded two and opened the tournament with wins in the first two rounds – over Nottingham’s Moira Johnson (6-4, 6-2) and Lancashire’s Marni Banks (6-2, 6-2).
In the quarter-finals, Adeshina eased past Surrey’s Martina Shaknazarova (6-1, 6-1) and beat Emma Raducanu from Kent (6-2, 6-2) in the final four.
That set up a clash between the top two seeds in the final of the tournament .
Adeshina was winning 5-0 when her opponent, Surrey’s Gemma Heath, was forced to retire.
Earlier in the week, Adeshina had competed in the 14-and-under Girls Winter National Tour, where she made it through the qualifying stages to reach the main draw.
There she defeated sixth seed Alice Thane (6-3, 6-3), before losing out to Cambridge-shire’s Kira Reuter (6-3, 6-1) in round two.
