BASINGSTOKE’S Esther Adeshina and Kira Reuter from Cambridgeshire won the 12 and under Girls doubles title at the AEGON British Junior National
Championships at the West Hants Club, Bournemouth.


In the final, number one seeds Adeshina and Reuter defeated the unseeded duo of Kirsten Campbell-Ferguson and Imogen Sinclair, who had taken out the second, fourth and eighth seeds en route to the final.


On their way to final the winning pair beat Hertfordshire’s Olivia Elliot and Indianna Spink 6-1 7-6, Buckinghamshire’s Indu Ragunather and Erika Dodridge 6-0 6-3 after seeing off Jojo Bach and Sonay Kartal from Sussex 6-2 7-5.
 

Then, in the final, Adeshina and Reuter cruised the first set, winning it 6-1, but then found themselves 5-2 down, but won the next five games to take the title.
 

Adeshina made it to the semi-final stages of the 12 and under singles event before losing out to the top seed and doubles partner Kira Reuter 6-0 6-3.
 

To reach the last four, the Basingstoke player had defeated Scotland’s Jodie Mclelland 2-6 6-0 6-3, Elisa Van Meeteren from Surrey 6-1 6-0 and Derbyshire’s Victoria Allen 6-3 6-4.


The doubles victory was a good way to cap the summer season as the Junior Nationals is the highest level competition for all juniors and the pinnacle of the summer domestic calendar.
 

It is a showcase for British tennis and the best junior talent. Adeshina is now looking forward to challenges of the winter season.
