TOTALLY Tennis players finished second and third in the latest Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) under-12 Boys Totally Tennis singles tournament held at Hampshire Court thanks to Matthew Berry and Chris Bundhoo.

In the quarter-finals, Berry defeated former clubmate Jonathan Duggan 4-1, 4-2 and performance squad teammate Bundhoo overcame William Fyall in three sets 2-4, 4-1, 11-9.

In the other two quarter-finals William Moon beat Rohith Manikonda 4-1, 4-2 and Oliver Haycraft defeated Noah Burton 4-1, 4-1.

At the semi-final stage, it was an all Totally Tennis match, with Berry edging Bundhoo in three sets.

Berry took the first set 4-1, Bundhoo the second 4-2 and Berry stepped up to win the third 10-7.

Haycraft beat Moon 4-2, 4-0 to book his place in the final. Haycraft beat Berry in the final 4-1, 4-1 and Bundhoo took third place in the play-off match, beating Moon 4-2, 4-2.

In the consolation draw, Duggan beat Fyall in the semis 4-0, 4-1 and Burton defeated Manikonda 5-3, 4-2 in their encounter. Duggan won the final, beating Burton 4-1, 4-0 and Fyall beat Manikonda in a closer three set match 4-2, 4-5, 10-7 to finish in third place.

In other tournament news, players have been out and about competing across the south.

Totally Tennis’ Mini Performance player Kirsty Da Silva was the runner-up in the eight and under Kingsley Tennis Club Super Saturday Indoor Mixed Singles event at the centre located in Bordon.

In the round robin event, Da Silva won Group B in the early stages of the tournament, beating both Bo Edwards and Chris Van Der Walt 10-2.

In the main draw, the three group winners Da Silva, Nicholas Moore and Shawn Rickpat Dzimba played each other to determine the overall winner. Da Silva and Moore defeated Rickpat Dzimba 11-9 and 10-1 respectively and Moore then beat Da Silva 10-1 to take the title.

Berry won the Storrington County under-12 Boys singles title in the event held at Storrington Lawn Tennis Club in Sussex.

Playing in the compass draw, Berry beat Felix Bailey in the quarter-finals 4-0, 4-1 and then Alex Fox in the semi-finals 4-2, 4-2.

In the final, he defeated Thomas Hearn to take the title.

Berry was also the consolation final winner at the Grade 5 Rudgwick 12 and under Boys Singles event held at Rudgwick Tennis Club in Sussex.

Dipping out of the main draw at the quarter-final stage after battling in a three set match against Lucas Askeland 2-4, 4-0, 10-8, Berry beat Ben Masters 4-2, 4-2 in the consolation semi-final and then defeated Robert Leemans in the final 5-4, 4-2.

Teammate Bundhoo won the Ramsbury Grade 5 County 12 and under Boys singles title at Ramsbury Tennis Club in Wiltshire.

In the quarter-finals, Bundhoo beat Max Adams 4-0, 4-0, followed by a bye against Soloman Sheppard at the semi-final stage.

He then defeated Rio Moss in three sets in the final, fighting back after losing the first set to win 1-4, 4-2, 10-4.

Jamie Jordan, who coaches both Da Silva and Bundhoo, said: “Both Kirsty and Chris have been training really hard.

“Kirsty has been working on her technical game and has improved so much.

“Chris has returned to playing tournaments after concentrating on improving all areas of his game and all his hard work is now paying off too.”
