LONDON Irish recorded a dramatic 28-26 Premiership victory over visiting Exeter Chiefs, thanks to a last-minute drop goal from Shane Geraghty.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes from Gareth Steenson’s penalty, but the Exiles soon replied with an unconverted try from Blair Cowan.

However, by the break Exeter led 13-5, after a try from Dean Mumm and the boot of Steenson.

Irish came out the blocks flying in the second-half as Tom Guest went over for a try and Geraghty converted.

Just two minutes later, the Exiles took a 17-15 lead as this time Alex Lewington scored which Geraghty was unable to convert.

The advantage was further extended when Cowan went over for his second try of the game with Tom Homer this time unable to convert.

The Chiefs hit back as Dave Ewers scored and Steenson’s converted which narrowed the lead to two points.

The teams swapped penalties from Homer and Steenson and then with four minutes to go Steenson kicked the visitors in front with another penalty.

It was then left to Geraghty to kick the winning drop goal in the final minute to secure a great victory.

Irish now turn their attentions back to the European Challenge Cup, when they entertain Grenoble on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
