CHINEHAM RFC will look to continue their promotion push in Hampshire One this weekend when they entertain second placed Millbrook.

The Lions are currently fourth in the table eight points behind Milbrook who won last week 57-0 at home to Locksheath, so it going to be a tough battle for the home side.

Chineham signed off 2015 in fine fashion with a 24-15 victory over visiting Isle of Wight.

The home side started the first half at May’s Bounty, playing uphill and uncharacteristically did not display their usual line speed and could not forge a clear scoring opportunity.

It was Isle of Wight who opened the scoring displaying good hands and smart offloads to move the ball from the left to right wing and score in the corner. The conversion extended the lead to 7-0.

The visitors added to their opening score after good interplay after a scrum between scrum half and their number The Isle of Wight side then added a penalty to take their lead to 15-0 at half-time.

Smart words from coach Johnny Berwick and inspiration from captain Tom Johnson set the scene for a remarkable comeback after the break.

From the off Chineham looked hungrier and more focussed and they dominated at the scrum.

The home side’s first try was much like the visitor’s first and was scored by Matt Lingham, but unfortunately the conversion was not made.

The next try was started by a pure driving maul which travelled 20 yards before crossing the try line, but prop Jack Douglas was adjudged to have been held up.

Dismissing the easy penalty, Chineham opted for the scrum which was well won.

The first Chineham drive for the line was halted, but Douglas was not to be stopped when he received the ball the next time and crashed over from five yards.

Sam Goodall added the conversion to reduce the lead to three points.

The third Lions try was started by a 30 metre run by Kieran Daley who offloaded to Douglas Ireland who was well supported by Tom Scoble and John Lingham with Lingham actually touching the ball down for a unconverted try.

The final Chineham score came from a mazy run from Daley who seized the opportunity when a glint of an opening presented itself to complete the 24-15 victory.
