Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott reckons Liam Dawson should be given his Test debut against India on Friday.

Boycott believes England's team selection requires a complete overhaul for the final Test in Chennai.

England lost the fourth Test by an innings and 36 runs as India took an unassailable 3-0 series lead on Monday morning and Boycott felt England 'folded' in the face of the hosts' momentum.

"I've been in games like this, on winning sides and losing sides - when the rolling stone is going downhill, it's very difficult to stop it," Boycott said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Test Match Special podcast.

"You just fold. You don't give up but it just goes badly."

While England captain Alastair Cook maintained the balance of three seam and three spin bowlers is the right one for England, Boycott disagreed.

Dawson is the only other spin option in the squad and Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali were not at their best as England were thrashed in Mumbai.

Boycott also called for an extra batsman to be summoned from the England Lions squad - Keaton Jennings, who stepped up from the second-string side to replace the injured Haseeb Hameed in Mumbai, made a century in the first innings but a duck in the second.

"After they've lost three on turning pitches, I don't think they're going to get a seamer or a flat batting pitch in Chennai," said Boycott.

"If the pitch in the next Test is going to be like this, you can open the bowling with (James) Anderson and (Ben) Stokes. You need a third spinner and an extra batsman.

"I don't care who you leave out. You can't pick Stuart Broad just because he's a good bowler and he says he's fit, you can't pick Chris Woakes just because he's had the best year of his life.

"I would send for another batsman from the Lions. All Gary Ballance has had is nets and drinks, the kid must be soul destroyed. They should send him home to be fair to him. Ben Duckett isn't good enough when it turns, he's a one-day cricketer.

"If you're not confident in them, let the kids go home. The last person they got from the Lions got a hundred and nought, so that went quite well."
