THE agent of Hampshire batsman Will Smith has pleaded guilty to representing both a player and a club in contract negotiations - and faces being struck off as an agent in the event of a repeat offence.
Rob Barry - the founder of Total Sport Promotions - appeared before a panel of the cricket discipline commission after admitting a breach of regulation 5.1 of the England and Wales Cricket Board players' agent registration regulations.
The charge centred on Barry "acting for more than one party to a transaction, namely both cricketers and county cricket clubs in relation to the negotiation of playing contracts".
His clients include former Durham captain Smith, who has moved to Hampshire since the end of last summer, Derbyshire's former Lancashire batsman Stephen Moore and Yorkshire bowler Moin Ashraf.
The ECB has not named the player or county in question in its investigation.
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board read: "The panel ordered that Mr Barry's registration as an agent be cancelled, but suspended the order for a two-year period."
Charges under four more regulations were not proved, the ECB said. Barry was ordered to play £2,000 toward the cost of the hearing.
