North Hampshire’s British Touring Car Championship drivers Rob Collard and Nick Foster had an eventful day in the latest rounds of the championship held at Silverstone on Sunday.

Hook’s Collard qualified eighth, just a tenth of a second behind his teammate, title chasing Colin Turkington, and enjoyed a solid opening race as he finished fifth.

However, his luck changed in his next outing as, having moved up to fourth, a misfire forced him to retire on the second lap.

In the final race of the day, the e-bay Motors driver had to settle for 12th after starting 21st on the grid.

Collard said: “I feel we have really turned a corner with the BMW and I hooked it up well in qualifying. We knew we were never going to match the MGs, but I was only a tenth behind Colin and only two tenths covered third place to tenth.

“Being late in the season, team orders came into play in the first race and I was told to be a rear gunner for Colin, keeping the Hondas and Andy Jordan behind him.”

“In race two the car was cutting out on the formation lap and then after two laps I had to pull off which was devastating. In the last race we had a strong showing, but once again it was another frustrating weekend.”

For Odiham’s Nick Foster the first race only lasted two laps as he ended up in a gravel trap after contact.

He started race two from last on the grid, but made up 12 places to finish 14th and then in his final outing just failed to make the top 10, coming in 11th.

Foster said: “In qualifying we had a turbo problem and we were still fixing it just before race one.

“I got a good start, but when Andy Neate and Will Bratt came together I was knocked off and was just a passenger at 125mph going into the gravel trap.

“In race two we started at the back of the grid and I felt we did well to move up the field and in the final race we were in the pack and it was our best race.”

The pair will now conclude their season when the final three rounds take place at Brands Hatch on Sunday, October 13.
