MAX Florey turned in a five star performance as the under-14 Bison won their bottom of the table showdown with Cardiff to ensure their place in South One next season.

The Welsh travelled to Basingstoke last Sunday full of confidence after a 4-3 win over the young Herd the night before.

However, the second game of the weekend went the way of the Bison as Florey opened the scoring only for Cardiff to level.

Florey netted a second from Sam Compton, only for the visitors to tie things at the first buzzer.

The second period saw no goals, setting up a tense last session in which Florey scored first to complete his hat-trick from spirit-of-the-game winner Alfie O’Shea and Compton.

The Welsh side levelled again, but Florey then scored two in the space of 35 seconds assisted by Peter Szegedi and Compton.

The Bison then made it 6-3 as O’Shea scored from Florey’s pass, but with 43 seconds left Cardiff scored to set up a nervous final few seconds, before the young Herd claimed their win.

The previous day in Cardiff, the Bison led 3-0 thanks to a brace from Jonah Stoodley man-of-the-match the next day and Florey, but the home side stormed back to take the win with four unanswered goals.

The under-12 Bison wrapped their season last Sunday with a 4-3 loss to visiting Romford.

Szegedi scored the opening goal from Solomon Stoodley and man-of-the-match Fraser Stoodley.

The Essex side then took a 3-1 lead, before the home side hit back to tie the game with goals from Solomon Stoodley and Szegedi.

However, Romford grabbed the winner in the final five minutes.

The Bison’s spirit of the game winner was Taran Angell.
