BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies suffered a 3-1 defeat in their first away game of the season against Woodley United in the Southern League Premier Division, writes Arthur Leaver.

Town had a couple of chances early on which saw Michelle Kimber’s cross headed wide by Sian Wylie and then a corner from Katie Randell was put wide by Ayala Truelove.

The home side opened their account after 25 minutes and before the break the advantage had been doubled.

The visitors tried to hit back and Josette Pearmine fired just over as half-time approached.

Town got themselves back into the game after 67 minutes, after Lindsey Beverley’s cross from the right side saw Truelove head home.

The score stayed like this until a mistake in the Town defence let Woodley make it 3-1 in the final minute.

This Sunday the side will look to bounce back to winning ways when they entertain Parley Sports Ladies in another league encounter at the Winklebury Football Complex (kick-off 2pm).

Meanwhile, Basingstoke Town Reserves Ladies made a good start to their season as they beat Tadley Calleva Ladies 4-0 in the Hampshire League Division Three.

Lindsey Wilson scored a brace and there were single goals for Rebecca Lee and Shannon King both scoring a goal each.

This Sunday, they are at home to AFC Bournemouth Ladies at the War Memorial Park (kick-off 2pm).
